Notes From Training Camp 2025
(Yesterday, 02:39 PM)jj22 Wrote: I never said he would be cut. People have a way of putting words in my mouth when they don't like my opinion on things. So they make up something I said then melt down over it and call it a 'bad take".

But they could gain a more productive player who wouldn't get the spot on the 53 man roster otherwise. That is a net gain if this is about fielding the best team.

Murphy is still a prospect and a former 1st round pick from two years ago. You don't cut guys like that at the expense of keeping a guy like Cam Grandy on the team. Cmon man.

We lose cap space by cutting him.

He still has impressive physical size, speed, and strength.

He isn't going anywhere. It makes no sense to cut him. You coach him up and hope he blossoms. But don't give him snaps he does not earn. Maybe the prospect of cutting cut next year lights a fire.

If he does not improve this year, the cap hit is still negative next year, I think, but closer to neutral.

FWIW, Mutphy flaming out, Ossai leaving, and Trey's age all all reasons why I woukd keep 6 DEs this year if possible.

He does, but I'm starting to think he's missing that Dawg attitude to use those attributes to push through people. With that size, strength and speed, he simply should be a bigger factor in games.

Now see every time I try to take the high road someone flags me down at the next available exit.

j/k.

Not for another position group Weezy, but watching some of the camp fonder ends this preseason, I do wonder if we'd get more out of one then Murphy if they were given the same opportunities ("starter"). Not sure the bar is that high to surpass what Murphy (has brung) will bring in 2025. But we will see.

I'm not sure how we got here but clearly it's gotten out of hand. I say we all just move on and no one say anything (bad) about Murphy. Just to be safe and not ruffle any feathers.

I apologize for my part brining him and his roster spot up. This is a good thread with great updates. We shouldn't derail it.

LOL

Start crap andthen exit after taking a parting shot.

Trash any Bengals player in the TC thread, it is relevent. I will defend them which is relevent.

I never start anything. That's why you don't see me getting banned/suspended. I say something and all hell breaks loose. Maybe your issue is you feeling the need to defend a Bengal player against members on this board. We all love this team. We still will have opinions. You aren't reacting like this regarding Patrick criticism. Or are you? I honestly have not paid attention to see if you are sensitive about any player getting criticized in the TC thread. Maybe it's a thing. If so my apologies for not picking up on that.

Now please, let me ride this road in peace. I'm trying.

True, I am a bit bummed Murphy is banged up again though. This is his time to shine with Trey out for now. Murphy plays better as a RDE too.

This is not peace, it is accusing me of being overly sensitive. I may be, and yes I defend all players against personal attacks or trashing them. It gets old seeing posts attacking players and dismissing coaches expertise. I feel you did both.

I will move on, life is too short.

You aren't wrong. He lacked it in college, too. That is why I tend to favor production more than traits.

But there is no earthly way we pull the plug on him this year. Next year? Maybe.

You are correct, he will be here for a while before they decide to move on from him.

That is where the comparisons to Shemar I think end. Murphy as Sled said doesn't seem to have the DAWG in him.

Stewart has the DAWG.

For sure. You don't ever cut a player before their prime that was a former first rounder.

Would've been good advice a few years ago when it was clear he was ass.

How many sacks did he have last year, Luvinit?

I undersstand the forum couch experts pick players each year to shit on and it is Murphys turn. You may be right and the second he is no longer on the team, he will be dead to me. Unless it is after contributing to our success in any way.

Just going to leave this here.

Myles Murphy is a Bum (2)

You guys rode the shit out of me and got your pants in a twist over a 3-game data point. I'm not letting this shit go.

Speaking specifically to Hoard's point #3, a good ass kicking like the OL got yesterday can, and will force you to come out with a new perspective the next day. Yesterday might have been just what they needed in order to separate the starters from the backups, and begin to develop that cohesion that so many of us speak of.

actually not last year, i remember alot of domination by the offense and struggles with our young dline and FA pickup... im glad to see film of some of our young players and draft picks seeming performing better since last game

A wake up call is always good.

Though I don't think there has been much doubt about the the OL starters. OBJ, Mims & Karras were locks. Fairchild was gonna have to struggle mightily to not start at LG. Thankfully, he has done well so far. And Patrick is a clear upgrade to Ford, who is better at OT and our only proven OT reserve at any spot. Volson has proven something, but not sure it is a good thing, but at least he has some experience. Lee, Rivers, Cochran, McLaughlin, Kirkland & the rest have little to no NFL experience.

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. 4 of the 5 spots seem to be settled. I really don't want to see Lucas Patrick starting at RG. If the team would just pick up the phone and call Dalton Risner's agent, I think that many of us would feel a lot more comfortable about Joe's season long safety.

I've not been the biggest fan of the CTB pick or his play to date, but I'm hoping this guy can be as good as he thinks he is, and I don't say that as a negative. DBs need confidence.

I sill think he could be a Pro Bowl FS
