Notes From Training Camp 2025
(Yesterday, 01:31 PM)Luvnit2 Wrote: This is such a dumb take. He is listed as a starter.

Drama much?

What is a dumb take? So what he's listed as a starter, what does that even mean for training camp depth charts? Trey Hendrickson is listed as a 4th stringer...

What has he done to keep his spot outside of being a 1st round pick?

Is everyone being dramatic by questing if your beloved Murphy has it in him to ever be what you want him to be?

Something tells me your post won't age well next offseason.

Him starting though says more about the overall state of the team at edge than Murphys skill. He needs to start showing something or hes going to be out a job in two years.

Him listed as a starter on a training camp depth chart means nothing.... And who cares how old he is if he's getting outplayed by others. He's shown nothing. Not even flashes.

Unless you consider being "disruptive" while being blocked by rb's and te's flashes...

Patrick is not an option as a starter. I don't care what you guys say. I've seen enough.

In 30 games over two years, he's amassed a total of 40 tackles (21 solo) and a whopping...wait for it...3 sacks. Oh, and also a crushing 4 TFL.

What I said was there is no way he is a bad as some people are making him out to be or he wouldn't still be starting. And Patrick has been in the league longer than Ford. WTS, Ford was the #3 rated guard in his draft class, so I'm not sure what happened there. He's a better tackle than guard.

That was really projection from what I remember, as Ford was actually playing OT in college (similar to Carman), right?
I didn't think he played much Guard in college, but I probably need to go back and look at his college history.

My worry is even if Patrick does end up playing well, he's clearly not playing well now, so how long will it take him to do that?
We've seen the past couple years where losses in Sept and (early) Oct end up biting the team.
If team isn't running on all cylinders early, I worry history might repeat itself.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Or your won't. Time will tell. I am not a Murphy lover, I am a Bengal's lover and hope every pkayer gets better. I give up on players after they leave the team. Obviously you give up on them while they on the team. Suggesting our starting DE should be cut, just dumb take in my humbe opionion. Even dumber until Trey starts practicing and playing.
But carry on the drama and I will carry on optimism. All is good.

I have said he looks slow and not athletic. I based my opinion based on our depth chart with Trey not practicing. Dumb take to say Bengals should or will cut him.

His post came as we were discussing Murphy out with an ankle injury. Why say it now because the guy got hurt. Why not say it 2 weeks ago versus shitting on Murphy afer he gets injured. Just my 2 cents.

Again you are putting too much into a training camp depth chart. If you ignore Trey being listed as a 4th stringer, ok, but even Patrick is listed as a starter. So what does that really mean?

And it's okay to give up on a player while they are still a Bengal if they haven't shown anything in 3 years. I'm for sure you have but I won't  call you out on it.

Murphy isn't good at Pro Football and the Bengals should look elsewhere! The dude put up 0 sacks last season. Not sure how you think J22s post is drama filled because he is right.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Murphy isn't being cut because it's a 5.9 million dollar dead cap hit. This really isn't debatable, dude will be on the roster through the end of his contract. He may be a back up but we gain nothing by cutting him.

OK

I undersstand the forum couch experts pick players each year to shit on and it is Murphys turn. You may be right and the second he is no longer on the team, he will be dead to me. Unless it is after contributing to our success in any way.

I never said he would be cut. People have a way of putting words in my mouth when they don't like my opinion on things. So they make up something I said then melt down over it and call it a 'bad take".

But they could gain a more productive player who wouldn't get the spot on the 53 man roster otherwise. That is a net gain if this is about fielding the best team.

Honestly, I think that the only thing that will be keeping him on the roster is the fact that he was a 1st round selection and the team has guaranteed money in that contract. However, with Murphy looking like a true bust thus far, it only serves to add to the notion that the Bengals have struggled so mightily on drafting OL and DL in recent years. Hopefully guys like Mims, Fairchild, Jackson and Jenkins all flourish and break the cycle of busts.

You said they should "consider cutting ties", I also would have read that as saying he should be cut. Maybe that wasn't what you meant but I can see why the other poster thought that. Again, there is just no way to do that financially as it would actually be nearly $3 million lower in cap space to cut him than keep him.
