Notes From Training Camp 2025

Yes, at LG not RG. Yes, for a run first team. Yes, he was penalized a lot (6).

But still well clear of Ogbuehi territory.

This is like saying Jackson Carman was good in 2021 because he didn’t give up sacks.

Dude is not a starter. That’s why we signed him for peanuts. And nothing so far in camp or the first preseason game has suggested otherwise.

Patrick has been around the league because he's a versatile IOL.
If he was a solid-or-better starter that was consistent, he would have had a long-term contract and been a mainstay at the same position for years.
After his time with the Packers ended, he's only been with Bears 2 years, Saints 1 year.

What signs this entire offseason are pointing to Patrick being a solid or better starting OL for the Bengals so far?
Or are you just going based off the fact he's been a starter previous seasons on other teams?

Maybe I'll eat my words, but there's been nothing Patrick has shown that I've seen to give me confidence RG is covered. He also was a dude I literally had to Google when he was signed because I had never heard of him before, and while I don't claim to know every player, there usually aren't players coming in that I've never heard of that end up doing really well for the team.

I never said Cody Ford was a starter. I never even said Patrick was a good starter. What I said was there is no way he is a bad as some people are making him out to be or he wouldn't still be starting. And Patrick has been in the league longer than Ford. WTS, Ford was the #3 rated guard in his draft class, so I'm not sure what happened there. He's a better tackle than guard.

Geno Stone who has been rehabbing and Orlando Brown who was absent on Wed are both practicing.
Myles Murphy who appeared to tweak an ankle over the weekend is still out

Gesicki, Burton, Johnson, and Cochran are all on the rehab field

Stone is not likely to play on Monday despite practicing

Stone needs to sit anyway. We know what he brings, we are more in need of seeing who else could play that safety position and not get toasted.

It is not good Murphy is injured. I hope it is not serious, but if he is not on rehab feild, it must be.

I've been trying to stay high on Muprhy, but man...it's really, really hard to see him just not having much of an impact on this team.

Murphy, they may need to consider cutting ties. I saw more out of no name ends (51) in preseason then I have Murphy in 3 years.

And while no one expects 51 (I think Thomas) to make the 53 if he's outplaying Murphy.... Same with the other no name ends supposedly camp fonder. At this point if any of the camp fonder ends can get 1 sack in a season it's an upgrade from Murphy.

If he garners any trade interest id love to see him swapped for a guard around cut down day.

I am with you. I knew he was a project. I knew he was more a Hubbard type than a sack artist. I was OK with that.

His admissions that he did not work as hard as he should have been were really disturbing to me. I guess it is a good thing he finally realizes it. But his work ethic was supposedly one of the reasons that betting he'd develop was a good bet.

His measurables (size, speed) are almost as good as Stewart's. Murphy had a 9.71 RAS. Stewart 9.99. They both look fantastic in tights but struggle a bit more with the football part.

But I think Murphy is firmly the #4 DE behind Trey, Ossai, and Stewart. And probably closer to Sample at #5 than Stewart/Ossai at #3/#2. Though Stewart & Sample will move inside a good bit, which will open up more snaps at DE.

I still have hope for Murphy. But am not expecting anything. And he should not be getting developmental snaps anymore. Merit based only. If Sample or Johnson are better, they should be DE4.

She rarely says anything positive, so this could actually be noteworthy, and not just fluff.

Thomas was a Browns draft pick and has a sack of Joe Burrow on his resume.

In a weird way, our DE group is deep. I mean, the only DE who has not made an NFL roster is Stewart. The other 7 have. I'd feel pretty good about sny of them as DE5 or on the PS. There isn't an UDFA/zero experience guy in the bunch.

Of course, aside from Trey, I am not sure there is another reliable NFL starter/pass rusher in the bunch, either. Which is the rub.

If Stewart hits, then Ossai/Murphy/Sample are pretty decent as backups if Ossai plays like he did to end the year last year. I think Murphy gets this year to prove his worth. I liked Cedric Johnson last year, as well, in limited action.

I think keeping 6 DEs and/or 11 DL is on the table.

QB 2, RB 3, WR 5, TE 5, OL 9, DL 11, LB 5, CB 6, S 4. If Stewart/Sample are gonna function as DT5, you can cut it down to DL 10 and use that extra spot somewhere else.

We've seen this before. In his contract year, Murphy will have like 5-6 sacks and the Bengals will bring him back and he'll never duplicate that.

Because he hurt his ankle? Do you see him practice daily or are just doing some drama?

This is such a dumb take. He is listed as a starter.

Drama much?

Yeah, they aren't cutting Murphy who's still only like 23 years old and has two years left on his rookie deal.

Him starting though says more about the overall state of the team at edge than Murphys skill. He needs to start showing something or hes going to be out a job in two years.
