His post came as we were discussing Murphy out with an ankle injury. Why say it now because the guy got hurt. Why not say it 2 weeks ago versus shitting on Murphy afer he gets injured. Just my 2 cents.
What would you do if you had an employee making a LOT of money, but said employee was doing absolutely nothing for 3 years running? Again, not coming at you personally, just pointing out the obviously glaring conundrum.
I realize the situation with depth at that position on the roster, but at this point, it probably doesn't hurt the team to take a chance on a HUNGRIER player. From the sound of things, the last thing Murphy looks at the moment is hungry!

However, with Murphy looking like a true bust thus far, it only serves to add to the notion that the Bengals have struggled so mightily on drafting OL and DL in recent years. Hopefully guys like Mims, Fairchild, Jackson and Jenkins all flourish and break the cycle of busts.
For the record, I never said they "should or would". Fake news.

Good point, our DL and DC are morons so they put the guy no capable or working hard at top of depth chart.
I will take the coaches opinion over anyone in this forum all day long.
If he was doing as poorly as the haters say, his ass would be 3rd or 4th string on the depth chart.

Was this about practicing or playing or about depth charts and pointing to that as meaningful during training camp?
I got time today.
Careful carrying that goal post. I wouldn't want you to pull something.

What does may mean?
"Murphy, they may need to consider cutting ties. I saw more out of no name ends (51) in preseason then I have Murphy in 3 years."

Oh so this is about depth charts...
Well Trey's a 4th stringer then.

Murphy does not make a lot of money.
We lose cap space by cutting him.
He still has impressive physical size, speed, and strength.
He isn't going anywhere. It makes no sense to cut him. You coach him up and hope he blossoms. But don't give him snaps he does not earn. Maybe the prospect of cutting cut next year lights a fire.
If he does not improve this year, the cap hit is still negative next year, I think, but closer to neutral.
FWIW, Mutphy flaming out, Ossai leaving, and Trey's age all all reasons why I woukd keep 6 DEs this year if possible.

It doesn't mean "should or would" as you misquoted me saying...
Does that mean I said they "should cut ties"? Does that mean I said they "would cut ties"?

I undersstand the forum couch experts pick players each year to shit on and it is Murphys turn. You may be right and the second he is no longer on the team, he will be dead to me. Unless it is after contributing to our success in any way.
What evidence do you have to suggest he is a good NFL player?

I'm glad that you received that with such vitriol. Now you pissed me off DH! I was cordial, and you chose not to be! You better hope that mfr comes to play, because I'm going to ride you like a rented donkey for the rest of the gd season about this now.
You better hope "your boy" shows up this season.

LOL
Why do the coaches have this player that needs to be cut according to you at top of depth chart and getting 1st ream reps?
I guess they are morons and lack your expertise and have no clue what they asked him to do on the field? You have all the answers.
BTW..show me where I ever said Murphy was a good NFL player. You won't find it, I have stated he has been disappointing. The difference is you gave up on him ignoring our coaching staff's ability to access NFL talent, I have not given on a guy in year 2 who was injured in year 1. Plenty of time to trash him later if the Bengals cut him per your recomendation.

The only reason why he is still on the team is because of cap reasons and not because of his ability to play football. Hes the sixth best DE on the team right now (assuming Trey Comebacks) and not worthy of taking a roster spot at this point.

I'm not sure how we got here but clearly it's gotten out of hand. I say we all just move on and no one say anything (bad) about Murphy. Just to be safe and not ruffle any feathers.
I apologize for my part brining him and his roster spot up. This is a good thread with great updates. We shouldn't derail it.

No black NFL player is "my boy" Coach.
Odd, I didn't get any racist vibes from his post. Remember, this is sports banter. Try not to take everything so seriously.

I'd like to see this defensive (line) domination against another Oline. Seems like we hear this every camp and it ends up being more of our Oline being bad then it is our Dline being a dominant force.
