Trey Hendrickson statement today to ESPN: “No communication has taken place between my camp and the organization post draft. The offers prior to the draft did not reflect the vision we shared and were promised last offseason if I continued to play at a high level. Coaches are aware of these past conversations. Rather than using collaboration to get us to a point to bring me home to the team, THEY are no longer communicating. I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution of this situation, but that’s hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals.”

I'm just waiting for a rebuttal to what a penny-pinching, shitty FO they are.

If true, and I tend to believe him as he isn’t the only one to complain about the lack of communication from the front office, it really makes me wonder about their desire to extend him. It sounds like they presented their final (?) to him and it’s take it or leave it. I would like to know what his expectations are and what they offered him. I think he absolutely deserves a raise. I don’t think he should expect Garrett or Crosby money

If I remember right, he was allowed to shop himself, but teams thought the Bengals asked for too much in return.

Would you have been ok with trading him for a third?

For the NFL's sack leader....no.

I've mentioned this before but it's truly funny how they won't pay him a premium but they'll ask for a premium because that's...what they think he's worth (in return)...

As much as I can't stand the way our front office works, I don't know if I can blame them for the lack of communication here. If they're not willing to budge and they hold the advantage in this situation, what conversation is there to have? Asking Trey if he's changed his stance on the money and Trey says no then what communication is there to have? If it's me, I'm willing to budge, but then again, I'm also hiring a GM like decades ago

Just remember, this is from Schefter and he hasn't got the best track record for accuracy. He missed the Chase and Higgins extensions.

Communication is key. At the very least be communicating with his dumbass agent that asked to give him a raise or trade him
when it was impossible to do so. Trey might want to think about doing what Tee did and hire Ja'Marr's agent.

We would have gotten more than a third for him!

OP literally states: " Trey Hendrickson statement today to ESPN:"
Are you saying that this isn't an actual statement sent to ESPN from Trey or his agent?

He lead the NFL in pressures and Sacks last season; So why shouldn't he expect that type of money?

Meh. I obviously don't know where they stalled in negotiations but we are just 2 weeks out from the draft. The Front Office is small and is dealing with all the contracts from the draft picks and UDFAs etc. I don't expect them to circle back to Trey until at LEAST mid-June more likely when training camp starts in July.

I think it's a pretty safe bet to say it's over guranteed money!

I'll ask the same questions I always ask those who have chosen a side on this and other contract matters:
What has been offered?
What is being asked?

I mean I really don't have any legitimate knowledge about these things, and who knows what the truth is here or the source.
But the Bengals have an apparent record of non-communication, and there the only way we will benefit from our draft strategy is if Trey is playing.
The overarching look is a parsimonious team that cares little for the players that have earned the right to ask what is generally the going rate for top notch players. Whatever he's asking for is apparently going to be less than the top paid defensive players.
We seem to dawdle around till things are critical and people are pissed off - or till they have become significantly more expensive than they were when they originally asked for the money that is typical for their level of performance.
I can't think of a significantly beneficial reason other than keeping their money in escrow a little longer to squeeze as much money possible till they have to withdraw.
But if you want the guy you communicate with him. And there is no scenario where letting him go and getting some sort of risky draft pick makes any sense.
If they're going to take their time, it just takes a phone call to let him know what's going on.
They are just so arrogant and frustrating.
