Tinsley looked awesome. No question about it.
That said, I’m hoping we see more of what he can do next game. He only had one reception against the Eagles, so the Washington game just isn’t enough off a sample size to judge him very well. “If” he has also been a beast in camp, this helps his case as well of course, but I can’t recall hearing much…? ![]()

We could carry six, but right now I think it's smarter to carry 5 and rely on Gesicki, Fant and Hudson to be receivers, and use that extra spot on one of the lines, especially with the way the Oline is already beat up. They have a lot of depth OL, but none of them are particularly impressive. Who would be the OL worth taking the extra spot over a 6th WR? Right now I see it as... OT - OBJ, Mims, Ford, Cochran OG - Fairchild, Patrick, Rivers...Volson/Kirkland? C - Karras, Lee/McLaughlin My preference is to sign Risner and have Fairchild and Risner as the starting OGs with Patrick as first IOL off the bench that can play all interior positions. Rivers can develop at OG his rookie year. For C, Patrick can be the immediate backup and let Lee or McLaughlin develop, sending the other to PS or just cut. I don't see a huge reason to keep both Lee and McLaughlin, but if that is a desire, kick off the 4th OG in favor of them. I'm really not concerned if any of the OL after them were to get plucked off the PS, and the Bengals can promote one from the PS in the event of an injury. If keeping just 5 WRs, I'd probably lean toward keeping a 5th TE and plan to run heavy 12-personnel this year with Fant and Gesicki as the starters with Hudson backing up Gesicki and Sample in a pure blocking role and backing up Fant. Then the 5th TE could be between Grandy or McLachlan.

Tinsley has earned a spot. Not on the practice squad, but on the roster. If Burton is also on the roster, fine, but if you put Burton on this roster and don't protect Tinsley, it sends a message to the fringe players that you have no shot, no matter what you do on the field. I have never been a fan of Pete Carroll, who I call "Teflon Pete", because nothing sticks to him. Carroll has a very blatant "the best will play", and he sat a FA QB that they spent big money on for a third round pick, at the QB position no less, and it ended up winning him a Super Bowl. The entire roster is watching what Burton is doing and has done thus far, and they are watching Tinsley, who reportedly also has been having a lot of highlight catches in practice. I would not like how it would feel if Burton, who admittedly has been reportedly more "focused" this year, makes the team over Tinsley. I don't care that he is a third round pick. I looked up Tinsley's numbers at the combine and he registered a pretty slow 4.6 in the forty yard dash. He did have a 4.21 short shuttle, which was good for fifth-best of all the WRs at the combine his rookie season. He also had a 6.62 three-cone drill, which ranked in the 90th percentile. So, he may not have vertical speed, but he has really good agility. And his hands? Outstanding. I think he is the epitome of a #3 or #4 WR, with predominately slot position versatility. I really hope he makes it. ![]()

If they don’t keep him on the 53, I hope they can get him to the PS because as good as Charlie Jones can be, he’s likely to get injured at some point in the season and I don’t want to see Perine as a returner. Keeping 6 WRs seems like the path but probably 4 TEs. From my perspective, Drew Sample needs cut yesterday. I’m not sure he’s faster than anyone on the o-line or d-line. Sure he’s a great blocker but Fant can easily replace him while being more dynamic. Sample being that open and not getting in for that goal line TD was ridiculous. He needs to run just beyond the line so the catch makes it a TD. He also needs to be faster so Burrow can throw sooner. The DB made a great play but it’s only because Sample has the speed of a sloth. He does have wiggle, but he has shown poor hands. I think Tinsley sticks over him for that reason, and in reality, neither one would likely be dressed on gameday, as they will have Jones and Burton for kick returns. ![]()

I believe Hudson would be the odd man out, despite Burrow seeming to like the guy. He was awful in the 2nd PS game. Too one-dimensional. Grandy and Fant can provide good receiving ability and are solid blockers. Hudson also lifted the football at the one yard line as he scored in an almost matrix-glitch scenario as it looked exactly like the Patriots week 1 fumble as he was going in to the end zone. Still can't believe that one play likely cost the Bengals a playoff spot. ![]() ![]()

True, just saying Tinsley's adjustments in the air were more of a positive for him and Browning than they were positives of good coverage. It was good coverage which made those throws and catches even more impressive, just better Offense. Kendrick Pryor I like for the PS and he was making plays again this last preseason game. Doubt they poach Pryor twice. (Today, 12:42 AM)Bengal Dude Wrote: I feel like Burton will wind up on IR to begin the season. I could see that for sure and then Tinsley would make it as the last WR pretty sure. Yoshi is our #3 WR, Chuck just played well. We will keep 6 WR's as Truck said. Isaiah Williams might make it as a Returner, we will see. He is a good one.

These other jabronis for backup OL wouldn't be sniffing a roster if not for injuries. We can also put them on the PS and have them called up to fill after the fact. McLachlan also hasn't really shown anything though to warrant getting a roster spot either, so ::shrug::
