Curious, are you finding PVW around MSRP ($200-500) or are you paying secondary market prices to get it yearly?
I am assuming you get (at least) a bottle a year if you drink it as "a regular occurrence" in the summer.

A friend of mine is a bit of a player in the bourbon trading circles. What he does is buy good stuff that is common to his local store by the case, and then uses it as trading currency for people who live in markets where what he has stock of is scarce. On another note, the whole business of only shipping selected brands to selected areas seems a bit like market manipulation for the purpose of creating a "false scarcity" in my mind.

Yes and no. The scarcity of brands like Eagle Rare and EH Taylor being "allocated" are indeed manipulation. The 20 and 23-year-old Pappy's really just come down to having to age it so long. 20 years ago, whiskey is what hard men and alcoholic bar maidens drank and were pretty much looked down on as the "fabulous people" drank their martinis, margaritas etc. Then the bourbon craze hit and all of a sudden everyone wanted bourbon, everyone was an expert, and Buffalo Trace's marketing team made people think Pappy was the best thing since sliced bread, only they can't produce more, because even if they ramp up production, it has to sit in a barrel for 12-23 years. The BT sold the Blanton's brand to Japan, and most of that is going overseas. But any brand that is 4-7 years old ought to be readily available now, especially since the craze is reportedly stalling. I'll personally be glad when they move on to the next best thing, like these celebrity tequilas, and get out of my bourbon market.
You can buy Blanton's, ER, and EH Taylor at the distillery for retail, but you have to wait each morning and stand in line with the taters to find out what the offering is, then you can only buy one bottle per brand every three months. It's ridiculous, you see the groups on FB and they go stand in line to get whatever the bottle of the day is, and don't even start their car before taking a picture of it and listing it for sale. Just driving the price up for everyone. I won't play those games, too many good brands most people don't even know about that are readily on the shelf for 50-60 dollars.

I've done this for years. I have a guy in Wisconsin I met on reddit that I ship Weller Green to (easy to get in Ohio). He in turn ships Eagle Rare to me (easy to get in WI).

I used to play in a poker group where the bottom half finishers would have to pay the top half finishers cash or a bottle of bourbon. 

I sold most of mine for a lot of money with Weller (sold for lots of money at no cost to me from winning it and had ten{?} bottles at one time), Blanton's, Pappy, Four Rose, etc, but still have ten or fifteen bottles of high quality bourbon.

No offense, but you come off just as bad as the people that got in "your bourbon market". The gatekeeping is lame. 

I didn't give bourbon the time of day until COVID hit and my sister gave me a bottle of Weller Antique for my birthday. Now I love it. Sue me. 

Yes, BT is good at marketing and there is a lot of hype around their products, but they produce some damn good bourbon. Are we going to sit here and act like Stagg, ER, EHT, the antique collection, etc. aren't some of the better bourbons you can purchase? Even if it wasn't allocated, I'd be drinking ER as my daily driver. 

I love KC 12, Rare Breed, OF 1920, RR 10 year, etc. as much as the next guy...but if people wan't to wait in line to purchase their ER because it's a novelty for them and they like it, then let them. You just come off as having sour grapes because you can't get any.

I may be an outlier, but I prefer other wheated bourbons over the Wellers that I've had.
Maker's 46 Cask Strength is my favorite (so far) for wheated, but I also prefer Bardstown wheated from their Origin Series and Old Elk. Also, Green River wheated and Penelope wheated (4-grain) for more of everyday sippers under $50.
Heck, the Wellers I've had are actually my least favorite bourbons from the entire BT line I've had.

I find ER pretty consistently a few times a year here in middle TN.
So often I don't bother buying because I don't go through my own bottle of it that fast.

My favorite price point for bourbon tends to be in the $50-80 range.
That's typically where I find the best overall value.

Same, I find the Bulleit 10 year to be extremely rich and flavorful for the price. I always keep an extra one in my reserve closet, just in case family or friends drop by to sip a few.
