Is Shemar holding out?
(Yesterday, 11:35 AM)RunKijanaRun Wrote: This franchise is a train wreck.

RG battle is between a journeyman fringe guy and last year's backup.

Contract disputes have our best defensive player and an already highly dubious FRP holding out.

32M in unused cap space for a team in a win-now mode with holes that should have been easily addressed in FA.

People find ways to defend these crooks. It’s beyond comprehension.

Over the course of the past 4 years ...even with significant injuries to their starting quarterback..offensive linemen and numerous defensive staters...this franchise has one of the better records in the NFL...they have addressed the concerns with defense and offensive line with significant coaching changes and players acquired both through the draft and free agency...maybe not with the coaches and players you thought they should get..but thats too bad..the Bengals..by the way have been in the top ten national viewership since Burrow was drafted....I would imagine that the majority of NFL players would love to play with Burrow etc..have a great day

This has snowballed. Zac didn't even express confidence this would be resolved by Training camp.

Yet another season we aren't going to get much production out of our 1st round pick (although we did good with getting Mims on the field).

Go to espn..pro football weekly..sports illustrated or any dozen and a half news outlets...at this time of the year the "media" is finding fault with the majority of nfl teams..management, coaches, ownership..free agency acquisitions..draft picks etc..lol@ snowballed

Stewart will be signed..participating in summer training camo and be ready to play....non story..as are most this time of the year

The issue on the rookie deal has nothing to do eith the slotted salary stewart will make..lol@ penny pinching..the bengals have spent zillions of bucks on their key players the past few years

No matter how one spins it, it is not a non-story. In fact, ESPN has it as the number 1 story under Top Headlines: "Cincy rookie leaves camp amid contract dispute."  This is not a small deal when combined with Trey holding out and combined with the fact that this is a rookie that most agree needs some coaching to improve on rather pedestrian sack numbers in college.

Over the last 4 years, the Bengals are 9th in wins.

Over the last 2 years, the Bengals are 17th in wins.

Over the 6 years Zac was HC they are 20th in wins. (The Browns have the same amount of wins over that time.)

We had 2 really good years where we made the SB and AFC Championship game. Then some bad years, and some mediocre years.

They've not made the playoffs 2 years in a row. Burrow was healthy last year. Time to start making the playoffs again.

Thank you..over the last 4 years..even with significant injuries..the bengals are ninth in the league of 32 teams...far from a trainwreck..and as burrow said a few days ago...even last year he was not 100%...I am excited about this year if we can avoid the injury bug

Paul Dehner said that the clause that is causing the issue is common throughout the NFL including 1st rounders. However, this is the first time the Bengals have inserted it in their contracts

It's next season and I'm hopeful

It is a non story..take a deep breath..I promise you stewart will be participating in summer training camp...if not...then it becomes a serious concern...As far as trey is concerned..it would appear that the majority of nfl teams do not feel that he is worth what he considers his value to be..my god man...all of you Board members are serious and passionate fans and you know fully well that these national beat writers are so off target the majority of the time its hillarious..take the sanders quarterback situation in cleveland..you have one third the national media proclaiming that he will be the starting quarterback...one third saying not..the other third saying he will be traded...have a great day

Dehner confirming what I posted earlier from Goodberry, that is is not a new clause for the league:

It’s a knucklehead clause
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Yes, and the Bengals are structuring the money differently in addition to the clause. Most players who have this clause in their contract have a lot more money up front so the future guarantees aren’t nearly as much of a concern. Bengals are not structuring it in that fashion.

Here is the thing that people who think this way don't seem to see, for whatever reason. Keep in mind, i'm not being sarcastic, negative or in any way malicious when i point this out. Just giving perspective from the 'other' side.

When you look at the success they've had and you factor in the injuries, you can certainly say they've been one of the more successful franchises since '21.

But when you look at that success, you can point to very clear reasons why the success ended when it did and you can assign blame for why those issues were there.

The offensive line is first and foremost, the reason Burrow sustained a knee injury in '20. The Bengals 'attempted' to fix this in '21, yet in the most crucial time, the line failed to protect him again and a SB was lost. In '22, the same thing happened. They attempted to fix the line, yet when it came down to the end, the line failed to protect him well enough and a SB appearance was lost.

Despite being the family of one of, if not the, most influential minds in NFL history, the current Bengals front office does not value the Oline--specifically the IOL--like PB did. They've tried to do things their own way by loading up on offensive skill players and they were able to bolster the defense through free agency. When that defense broke down, the shortcomings of the offensive line were magnified, though mitigated to some extent by Burrow and company.

So, if you want to talk about success, you have to first talk about the abilities of Burrow, followed by Chase, Higgins, Perine, Brown, etc. The front office is near, if not the bottom of the list of reasons why they've been successful because they had to be a bad enough team to draft the #1OA and #5OA players in consecutive drafts and they've failed to provide him a line and replacements for the defenders that left or didn't perform to the level they did in '21 and '22.

No it’s a clause if he’s a knucklehead
