Welcome Shamar Stewart

(Yesterday, 11:41 PM)CJD Wrote: I just don't know what you do with him as a player.

He had a 10.5% pass rush win rate and a 7.4% run stop rate in college.

That's the worst run stop rate and 2nd worst pass rush win rate among all defensive ends ranked in the top 100 on most boards (Carter, Pearce, Scourton, Williams, Walker, Tuimoloau, Stewart. Imanmielen, Jackson, Sawyer, Green, Kennard, Ezeiruaku, Swinson, Gillotte, Josiah Stewart, Jared Ivey)

Players with a pass rush win rate less than 14% in college have a nearly 50% bust rate, with only a few true standouts in recent NFL history.

Really, the only two are Rashan Gary and Travon Walker in the first round.

I just...I just really feel no hope that he becomes a good NFL player.

Here's hoping our coaches know something that the rest of the NFL don't...

Terrible stuff because it is true and makes me dislike the pick more and more. I just have to look at the positives as you know brother.

Not saying I like the pick, as a matter of fact I have stated it was the pick I would dislike the most but some good coaching can work with
talent like this and make it special. As you stated it has happened more than once and we DO have new coaches on Defense.

This is depressing. Who is ultimately in charge of these picks?

Must’ve been a Mike Brown and Tobin pick, they are not what one would call “football minds”.

Mike Katie and Troy, must’ve used ChatGPT for advice. I asked it last night and it chose Stewart. I hope he proves everyone wrong!

From ChatGPT:
Final Decision
Considering the Bengals' current roster and needs, I would select Shemar Stewart if available. His ability to impact the pass rush immediately aligns with the team's defensive priorities. However, if Stewart is off the board, Kelvin Banks Jr. would be a strong alternative to reinforce the offensive line.
Cincy Jungle

This strategy aims to balance immediate impact with long-term development, ensuring the Bengals remain competitive in the AFC.”

I’m *meh* on the selection. His lack of production takes the wind out of my sails. I see a lot posting about his lack of sacks but high pressure rate, but can he play LDE? Can he be someone who can “set the edge” and at least be a good run stopper while he develops more pass rush? Or is this guy looked at as a possible Hendrickson replacement (another *project* /sigh ) and will only be receiving occasional snaps at RDE spelling Trey? Trey rarely comes off the field, and if THATS the plan for this guy..I just don’t get it. Especially with G/T still available in a supposedly deep defensive draft. /shrug

For the record, I hate this pick.

For the record, I hope I an idiot and he becomes the next Reggie White.

He is a Bengal and I always root my ass off for every member of our team.

Welcome dude, plese prove me wrong quickly.

Dang, there goes Jackson to Vikings, but likely there also goes a competitor for Risner, Hernandez or Scherff.

But we have new coaches on the Defense now and a new DL coach in Montgomery, plus I saw Shemar had a very good pressure rate so these
things give me some optimism. If this was still Hobby being the DL coach and Lou as DC this would of disappointed me much more. I also like
that we didn't take a character concern at 17. We will see how this turns out, cannot deny the talent of Shemar Stewart.

When Duke talked about physical skills over production...I knew this was his guy.

Bad pick.

Some guys are better pros than college guys. I don't know though. Freak athletes with little production usually don't work out.

We can only hope he's a statistical anomaly.

Anything is possible.

Truth be known, are there really any sure fire studs left at 17 or a lot of guys with talent and question marks?

I am over my disappointment stage and on to hope and pray stage with Stewart

Really, it’s just another arrow. The hope has to be that one of Murphy, Ossai, Stewart (hopefully more than one), bust out. If each of them can contribute 5+ sacks, things wont be so bleak. It’s not really (at all), the pick I wanted (I was leaning Harmon at the time), but you figure it’s not only a 2025 need, but also future as well. Guess we will see:

The FO has zero idea on what they are doing. Shemar is just another Margus Hunt.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

People usually like everyone we draft. Pretty interesting that everyone hates this.
