I have to say—im actually happy to be in this position.

Options are to trade Tre for a good return, or re-sign him for a super bowl run.

Either option is good. The bengals made a great move acquiring him to begin with.

Going younger on D isn't the end of the world if they can acquire assets.

Hope we sign that bro up.

That said….

Dalton is 30

Trey is 30

If they give Dalton anything guaranteed >2 years….

Trey has every right to be pissssssed as he has killed or for this organization

If they sign Risner to a 2 year deal, likely no guaranteed money in year 2 is my guess.

Bengals need to stick to their plan, young defensive player and 1st round pick.

Glad if they turned down a second round pick.

Did anyone ever come to think that perhaps Trey said "Heck no, I'm not going to that crappy team, no matter how much they pay me?".

"We want a 1st round pick."
"Now we want a young good defensive player AND a 1st round pick."

That's not progress.

I'm conflicted as I've said a million times on this board they should have traded him for something during the 2025 draft.

Now your looking at a player for player situation or getting a draft pick in 2026.

Me too.  If Trey is worth similar money to other top defensive ends shouldn't he be valued as such in a trade?  Would Myles Garrett be traded for less that a 1st round pick +  Would TJ Watt?  Would Maxx Crosby?  Why would the Bengals trade Trey for a second round pick when none of those other guys would.  If he is that much less valuable than these other guys in a trade, he should be paid less accordingly.

On one hand you cant compare him to these other elite defensive ends and claim he should be paid about the same but then turn around and expect that a 2nd round pick is a fair trade when none of the other elite DEs would be traded for so little.  Again, why would the Bengals trade Trey for a 2nd round pick when none of the other top DE would be traded for that unless he is not seen as being as valuable?  If he is less valuable, his contract should reflect that.

If this reported trade offer is accurate, then the Bengals rejection of it tells me two encouraging things: (1) the Bengals are in win-now mode; and (2) they are optimistic about Trey playing this season. Otherwise, I think they make the rumored trade of a young defensive player and 2nd round pick.

He does not get a vote. He lacks a no trade clause in his contract.

Looks like the issue is the Bengals will only guarantee 1 year.

That’s insulting. Garrett, Watt, and Crosby all got 3. They gotta give him 2 at the very least.

He doesn't need a no trade clause to still tell the team that wants to trade for him that he'd rather retire rather than play for them.

We want a 2025 first round pick (a player that can help, you know….now)
We want a 202) first round pick, (a young player that can help, now)

A first before the draft > than a first in 2026

When asked about Trey in the post game press conference, he was kind of non commital. Basically he said deals often happen at the last minute. There was no public declaration of support or any lobbying about getting him signed.
That may be at Trey’s request who tends to prefer things more low keyed

I’m not sure it matters anymore. He broke records last year and we couldn’t stop anyone.

They’ll give up 30-35 ppg this year with him or without him.

Things are that bad.

He does have a vote. A team wishing to trade for him not only has to meet the teams wants, it has to have a deal in place with the player. All Trey has to do is turn down the offer.

You do love to argue. Simply, Bengals are not going to consult with Trey or his agent prior to having a trade deal being in place. They do the deal and then inform he is traded. If he decides to retire, that is his choice and the trade is nullified.

Yes it could happen, but drastic step for Trey to quit playing and leave 100 million on the table.
