I just saw that as well and was going to say the exact same thing. He got beat instantly on some of his reps in the preseason game. Not great just playing two series and I am worried counting on him this season.

I'm not sure Lucas Patrick is the answer at RG. Bengals are in a very precarious position.

Remember that Patrick's PFF grades from the past few years were not while he was playing RG.
He hasn't played significant RG snaps since 2020.
2024 - 64.6 overall grade (60.3 pass block)...474 snaps at LG, 88 at C
2023 - 50.5 overall grade (40.6 pass block)...953 snaps at C
2022 - 55.9 overall grade (30.8 pass block)...154 snaps at LG, 10 at C, 105 at RG
2021 - 57.2 overall grade (67.3 pass block)...57 snaps at LG, 822 at C, 32 at RG
2020 - 64.8 overall grade (61.5 pass block)...3 snaps at LT, 220 at LG, 8 at C, 708 at RG
So he's really not been that impressive in general, but he also hasn't played much RG for like 5 years.
Dude potentially just isn't a good fit at RG, especially for what the Bengals are trying to run.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
Sorry for Party Rocking!

And that from the Dline that couldn't sniff the Eagles QB's.

Pretty sure that can't be true, Ocho. I have it on good authority that he has the greatest snaps-to-sacks-allowed ratio, so he's not just a starting quality player, but a great starter.

Hopefully, this is a sign that they're looking for some way ANY way that Volson can contribute before deciding to just cut his ass.

And Ted can not do that from the RG spot? I think he could do it just as easily from RG as the center spot.

Maybe I missed it, I have not seen 1 post saying Patrick was close to being an all pro. I believe some fell he will be much better than 2024 Cappa, but he sucked so low bar.
I like Patrick and no RG is showing major weakness in camp. The OL coach and ZT can lobby for us to go get a better RG, we have the money, but will the FO bring in Risner (but think he is a LG also) or is there a better RG option available.
Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

Weird. Seems we are having major issues at RG, why not try him at RG?
This also scares me as we have 4 centers on the roster, injuries maybe as Lee and our rookie may not be practicing yet.

His big ass in the middle for goal line and situational short yardage might not be a bad thing.

Risner played RG last year for Minny and was a top 20 G in pass pro. Not as strong a run blocker.
Aa for Volson playing C. Lee is out. McLauglin has all of one practice back from injury. Patrick has C experience, but is starting at RG. Raym has been the only available C backup for most of camp. So I don't mind giving Volson a look. Is he better than Raym? Lee?

i would not move Ted, he has been under center with Burrow for 3 years, we have had good snaps and he has played solid, moving him to guard might actually weaken the line, that would be an adjustment for him plus whoever we put in at center would be weaker

It's likely more of an evaluation as to whether he can be the emergency C on game days. That could potentially let them dress only 7-8 OL and dress an extra LB, DB, or RB for ST's.

Because he has terrible balance and awareness. A position change isn't going to fix that.
As much as i would be hesitant to play 2 rookies at guard, i'd at least look at putting Jalen Rivers there to see if he has anything. Granted, i can't say i've seen too much of his tape this preseason, but i do recall some kudos and positivity being thrown his way at times. Plus, Fairchild looks to be a pretty heady guy and doesn't feel (at the moment) like your typical rookie.
Just found the "five takeaways" that mentioned that Rivers was playing RG with the 2nd unit for the 2nd day in a row and Greg Cosell said that he liked him (this was from Sunday).
