The Good, Bad, and Fugly; Preseason Game 1

If Hendrickson is signed, and Sanders plays, he's not going to like Trey and Shemar coming at him. It may be his welcome to the NFL moment like Gilberry and crew gave Johnny Alcohol.

He also did get a pressure but he never really affected rhe QB because the OL recovered easily after an initial loss when Jenkins slanted. As a gap control run defender he controlled the point of attack, flowed down the line with good lateral agility when needed, discarded blocks, and got his hands on the ball carrier.

Nice. Kris looked good in those snaps for sure. I am liking what I am seeing from our 2nd year DT's.

Thanks Synric. Rock On

Remember Stewart is planned to take most of his snaps where Hubbard used to be - if he keeps improving his knowledge and is game ready having him on one end and Trey on the other will give us a fun DL to watch. Yes the defense got skunked a lot but also a lot of it was players going to the wrong spot (especially at LB) and mismatches in the secondary with us missing so many starters back there. As to Jalen Rivers move his butt inside; that was where scouts had their most upside for him. He has strong potential but as a Guard not a Tackle.

I think Ossai is our starting LDE. You got your wish, they moved Rivers to 2nd team RG today and had Cody backup RT

I am going to stop hyping Ossai, he didn't show me anything in the first preseason game.

Just going to shut up and hope he produces, if not, Stewart is coming.

I was impressed with Barrett Carter.

Physically dense proportionally, but moves like a safety.

To me, he looks like a baller.

Knight looked stiff. First game and new system, but the Shipley run showed hesitancy on taking on blocks.

Preseason games are where marginal players sink or swim. If you're looking for the sinkers this is the time to find out. I don't put much stock in preseason games as to how the overall team is going to play in the regular season unless it's a complete rebuild season.. The offense is pretty much set other than RG and oline backups. Defense needs to be marginally better and more healthy than last season. 3-4 points per game can turn the team into a jugernught or last years flop.. We'll see though.

I think its a combination.   Some of these guys were bad draft picks.  I think most of these guys are mediocre with a couple being good.  When people keep saying its Lou's fault for not coaching these guys up, which players do you think should be a lot better than what they have been?  If we dont see a significant improvement from Golden's defense this year are people going to blame Golden for not coaching his players up or are we going to say maybe we are lacking in talent on this defense and we need to add more talent?

I guess I kinda jumped in a little. Been playing 2 1/2 years. My swing is wildly inconsistent, but generally getting better. Like Phil, I am right handed but swing left handed (bat left also). I got the 60 he designed as well, and it’s my favorite club! I have a big backyard, so I can work on chipping every day. An engineer I worked with turned me on to Shawn Clements and he has helped me immensely.

I’m 61 now, this is going to be my main sport going forward. I say go ahead and do it! There is so much help on the net it’s not even funny.

Im not gonna compare my unknown of Golden to Lou. But Lou's defense was complicated for players im told and the play seems to show reflect now when you had the right group it could work and would be complicated to handle even for the leagues best. But he seemed unwilling or unable to change it if we didn't have the right players.

In terms of Lou's defense it was terrible when he got here and terrible when he left. We only saw it work when they were not only extremely active in FA but also hit lightning in bottle with it. Bell, Trey, Awuzie, Hilton, Apple, Reader, BJ Hill and even Larry O. Thats dang near a whole defense.

Now we are about to see what Golden's scheme looks like with personnel that might not quite fit. Hopefully its easier on the players but it will probably be easier on the league's best as well.

Trey who I hope is back

Ossai

The key is getting teams into 3rd and 8 or more, but if so I can see this DL against the pass.

I’m far from expert but I don’t see Stewart having much of an impact inside.

We talk about Shemar Stewart's hands alot because he is a raw player. Here he miss times his swipe and is early missing the Tackles hands completely. He is still big, explosive, and long enough to get the pressure.

I'm left-handed, and the only things I do right-handed are play guitar and swing a club. That's because I was taught to play right-handed, and when I started playing baseball, my coach made me bat right-handed. (Although I field left) I hear it's a lot of help playing golf if you drink Pappy. Ninja

I'm right behind you, 59. I played a lot in my younger days. Since my son had passed, i only played once in the last 12 years before last sunday. I have been to the range several times. I'm a natural lefty and people always comment on how good my swing looks. My problem since i've got back into it is where the head of the club ends up on my downswing and it's immensely frustrating, since i didn't have any problem striking the ball before. I've pretty much figured out it has to do with the tightness in my back and simply not being able to stay stable while i'm bent at different angles. Thats why i'm considering the taller irons. I actually finally got that spot on my back to pop to free up the knot i've had for a few years and i'm in the process of finding out if i can use the standard clubs, through repetition. Since i've put in a pool and built a deck and a shed in my back yard, i don't have nearly as much room as i used to but i do have enough room for a net or even a simulator. For now i just go back there and swing at imaginary balls to try and get that muscle memory back. I just put a tee in the groud to simuate where the bottom of a ball would be and if i hear that "click" i know my club head is where it should be.

I'm seriously considering pulling a DeChambeau and figuring out which iron i hit more consistently and making them all that length. In a way, that's kind of a fun part of golf, finding out what works best for you and working toward that but it would be reallllly nice if i could just hit the ball like i used to Big Grin

As far as the net goes, my youtube algo is full of golf stuff now. lol

Good luck to you and keep it up. We both need a good hobby once there's so much more time to do things. I'm lucky that my nephew and a buddy are seriously into it so i have someone to golf with pretty much any time i want to.

Does anyone have access to PFF scores for the game?

To my eye on offense: first team looked good. Burrow, Chase, C. Brown, OBJ, and Fairchild in particular. Patrick the weakest link on the starting OL. Hudson, Sizzle, and Brooks also looked good.

The second team looked mostly crap. Browning, the OL. Tinsley & Mays made a play or two. Williams & Burton not much.

On D. Not much good news amongst the starting group. Jenkins maybe? None of the DBs looked particularly good. Sample & Cross made plays that Bryan & Stewart cleaned up. Giles-Harris made a play. Jackson looked good (aside from ST blunder) but was with the 3s. Carter had a nice sack. Heyward?

Saw this lasnt night. It also shows how Carter missed a couple times which sucks because he's the guy i picked to keep an eye on in a different thread. I also went back and watched a replay and realized how wrong i was on the CBs. I remember seeing them play off a lot later in the game and assumed they did that all along but they were up on the LoS early on, a lot.

There are very few times that i wish i wasn't left-handed but when i pick up a guitar or clubs are a couple of them. Sad

Funny thing, I said to myself, I know what 54 degrees is if we're talking golf but wasn't sure what you were getting at... Lol
I've never been a Calloway fan, strictly a TaylorMade guy. +1 might help your swing speed a little, but then your accuracy might be smidge off till you get accustom to it.

Last week on Saturday, i went to the range by myself and started off just hitting irons and i was hitting them straight and solid. That was the only time i did that in the one time we were out on the course and the 3 other times i was at the range with my nephew and buddy. So, i'm like sure, you hit the ball well by yourself but not when others are around, that sounds reasonable...

Then i realized i hit the majority of the balls with my 5 iron starting out. All my trouble came when i hit the shorter irons. I didn't even have the 5 in my bag when we played last sunday. I'm still working on it and i want to find out if that was actually the case; i can hit the longer irons but have trouble with the shorter ones. I'm still in the testing phase right now and i figure i will be for the rest of this summer.
