Trey Hendrickson Update
(07-01-2025, 06:15 PM)J24 Wrote: I would say a Four or 5 year deal for Parsons vs a 2 to 3 year deal for Hendrickson. I think the bigger thing would be guarantees as Hendrickson would probably get much less(like between 50 & 60 million) while Micha would get much more( like 100 million).

What would you do if your the Cowboys to make the deal work for you?

I'd probably look for Hendrickson + a 1st, but not giving up more than a 4th of my own in the trade to the other team along with Parsons.
Or just not giving up a pick of my own to go with Parsons. Just Parsons for Hendrickson+early pick.

But you talk about how you think Hendrickson would probably get much less guaranteed than Parsons, but then why would Bengals be trading? The biggest hangup in contract negotiations with them is guaranteed money.

What the Bengals may be more willing to go is trade Hendrickson to a team with a good but not quite as productive guy who is ~3-5 years younger that they would be willing to part with.
Someone who is in the 8-10 sack a year average range.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

We drafting in the top 5 next year?

Check the Bengals 1st round picks for the last 10+ years and tell me how many Chase and Burrow's you see...other than Chase or Burrow, themselves.

Yep.

2011 - AJ Green (4th)

Other than him, their best picks were Leon Hall (#18 in 2007) and JJoe (#24 in 2006).

To clarify; you are asking why the Bengals would trade for Parsons?

You did not address the contracts in my posts. Do you really feel he has a value of less than 25 million a year as you proopsed earlier?

I said 100  million guranteed not total. It be 160 million total contract

Parsons is a Burrow/ Chase Level player!

I'm asking why both teams would make the trade.

If Bengals are hung up about giving Hendrickson a new deal that will likely be even cheaper than Parsons, why would they trade for someone who will likely be more expensive and/or look for more guaranteed money?

And why would Cowboys trade Parsons for Hendrickson only to get a 1st rounder but give up a 2nd?
Parsons and Hendrickson are both disgruntled, so it's possible neither would sign a new deal with their new team and both hit FA after this season.
And if Dallas sees their window being now, I don't know if they would feel the return would be enough to risk giving up their perennial 12+ sack guy who is hitting his prime and a fan favorite to get a guy who is older and may not fit as well in their defensive scheme, all to just jump up potentially 1 round in next year's draft.

If Dallas doesn't see their window being now, they may just look to trade Parsons for multiple early draft picks instead of getting Hendrickson + 1 draft pick.

Bengals- They get a 26 year old prime elite pass rusher.

Cowboys- They get a first RD pick and they get back an elite pass rusher in the process.

If they(Cowboys) can't get a deal done with the Parsons can they get a better trade than a first + Hendrickson.

Bengals - Which they probably won't sign because of how much he'd be looking for.

Cowboys - If it was a 1st rounder without giving anything else up besides Parsons, absolutely. But a 2nd rounder (possibly early) to go up to (hopefully late) 1st may not really be much of a boost.

Bengals- If Trey Hendrickson was 26 years old, Do you think the Bengals would sign him to a long-term deal?If yes than why wouldn't the pay for Parsons?

Cowboys- Okay let's revise the trade, Bengals trade a first + Trey for a 3rd RD and Parsons! Do you like that move?

If Hendrickson was 26 years old putting up 35 sacks the past two seasons, he'd be looking for as much or more than Garrett and Chase got.
They both got 4 years, $160-161 mill. Chase got $113 mill guaranteed, Garrett $123 mill guaranteed.

I do not believe that Bengals would have given out that big a contract to a 26 year old premier pass rusher, at least not while also keeping Chase and Higgins.
My gut is they would look to pay between $25-35 mill APY and no more than $50 mill guaranteed.

If I was the Cowboys, I'd like the trade more as it gets lower and lower of a draft pick to send in return. 3rd round I like but may not be excited about, but a 4th I would definitely jump on.
