Notes From Training Camp 2025

Yesterday was a ticketed practice for season ticket holders. No room in the dome for them.
Today’s practice is back to 10am

I expect Teeggins to not play a few games this season, that's just the way he is injury wise...at least we know his physiology by now.

Our OL depth is either crappy (Ford), or has almost no NFL experience are career PS/fringe roster guys.

And the suruation at safety has gone from bad to worse. Julian Blackmon signed for cheap.

The stars yesterday in the heat were Fant and Jules. Jules got some time with the first team defense and picked Browning and Fant had a 35 yard TD. Stewart got some time with the 1's also.

I have 0 issue with our Oline depth. Cody Ford is a borderline starter and a fine backup. Volson has 3 years of starting experience in the NFL and recent draft picks, Lee has shown promise, and Rivers has talent.

The only thing I'd change about our depth is to make Lucas Patrick part of it.

As to Safety, we really should bring in a veteran, but it appears they like the young kids (Anderson, Anthony, Jules)

Just about every organization would realize this and do everything they could to help those guys out. This is the time you dream of as a fan or organization and the Bengals are unable to realize that.

The question is are they unable to truly evaluate the talent they have. We let Bates and Whitworth go because we undervalue theyre talent and assume its easily replaceable. Do we think there is no difference between Burrow and our previous recent QBs?
Or does winning it all not matter to the team and just the fact we have Burrow and Chase do enough to keep the fans interested and funds beyond what is needed to be spent is viewed as a waste?

They know what they have in Burrow. It’s why we’ve seen some of the changes we have since he’s been here. They’re just unwilling to truly go all in to help win that first championship. Imagine if they had paid Bates, extended Trey, and brought in Zeitler. They would have been one of the odds on favorites going into the season.

I got the impressiion ZT was not happy with Anderson and Anthony, one got burnt by Fant yesterday and was promtly replaced with Jules. We need a couple of them to step up, I think iit is weakest position group we have even worse than the OL. I am not impressed by either projected starter, I think their ceiling is good and the floor is bad.

As for OL I agree, it appeared Volson played well and has experience. Ford is not a stud, but a capable back up ST. I think Rivers needs a year or 2, but can develop into a starting guard.

I also agree I would love to see us sign a better RG and have Patrick be a backup. My concern on the OL is our ability to run block. It does not seem like we have a great run blocking backup guard, tackle or center. But, I did not watch the centers the other night other than Karras who I thought played well, maybe someone can chime in with more OL experience on how the backups to Karras did against the run and pass.

Lol

Because he’s definitely earned the benefit of the doubt.

We agree on Patrick.

Your OL IQ is higher than mine, so I should defer to your judgement, but I don't like Ford. Or, I should say, he is a guy who has more value not playing than playing. He can play 4 spots (everything but C). He is a great guy to have active on game day because he allows you to go light on OL and carry another position. But I think OT3 is a rung too high on the ladder for him. Secondary backup for me in a good OL. OT4/G4. Better at OT than G for my money. But the OT market is grim. Cochran/Kirkland/Stueber/Etienne look like it.

Volson needs to go. He just whiffs too often. Use that $$ to pay a starter (Risner, Scherff, even Mason). Then Patrick can be the primary IOL backup and 3rd C. Where he belongs. Plus, if they have concluded OT is beyond Rivers, then we are overflowing at G.

I believe the team is high on McLaughlin. I do not think we want to risk him. I think either 53 to IR or straight IR before cutdowns. Lee as backup C on the 53, Raym on PS.

Kris Jenkins in the cart to the locker room...no one saw an injury.  He was not with trainers

and he's back...either he had an equipment emergency or he really had to use the bathroom

Stewart started with the ones during 11 on 11

How can one player be a fine backup and borderline starter?  If he’s a borderline starter, then that player would be a fantastic backup.  Unfortunately, Cody Ford is a fine backup but has no business entering the season listed as a starter.  And yes, Volson has three years experience.  That doesn’t mean anything though given he’s not good at his job.  And when has Lee shown promise?  Not to mention showing promise doesn’t say anything as to whether or not he can cut it against starters on a regular basis.  And I hope Rivers has talent…our FO spent a 5th round pick on him.  He’s more likely to go the way of Adenji or Michael Jordan then become any type of reliable backup given the FO’s track record with lineman.

Lee is hyped because he fit the athletic metrics alot of experts point to as a marker for a higher percentage to have success in the NFL. He also showed good play/tape last preseason.  I know he's coming back from some kind of injury so his play is yet to be determined this year. But I think he shows promise for the future.

Completely agree on the OL needing to add some talent. I think we could have decent depth if we aren't counting on Ford or Patrick starting day 1. I think Volson does still have value as he has been one of our best run blockers. Maybe that value is higher for a team with a different offense? A player for player trade is quickly becoming my last and only hope to add talent to this team.

This is why you give any player the benefit of a doubt versus hating on a Bengals player because you don't like him.

I love them all, I want them all to succeed on te field and in life.

Never thought I’d see the day where JN users of like 20 years would get rage baited so easily by a couple of shit beat reporters.

Some of yall are no better than Reddit trolls.

I’m not saying Burton gets the benefit of the doubt but sheesh it was a couple twitter posts by known rage baiters
