They have another option and could push the signing or any bonus to later years. They could literally give Trey a 15 millio signing bonus for a 2 year extension (under contract for 1 years so + 2 - 3 years) and assign the entire bonus towards year 3.
They are nor forcced to place it equally each year, they could do 5million each year toeards cap, they could do zero towards cap in 2025 and then do 5 million year 2 and 10 million year 3. There are many ways the team can structure a signing or other bonuses.
But, they would be kicking the can down the road and will impact future years cap space.
