We lose cap space by cutting him. 

He still has impressive physical size, speed, and strength. 

He isn't going anywhere. It makes no sense to cut him. You coach him up and hope he blossoms. But don't give him snaps he does not earn. Maybe the prospect of cutting cut next year lights a fire.

If he does not improve this year, the cap hit is still negative next year, I think, but closer to neutral. 

FWIW, Mutphy flaming out, Ossai leaving, and Trey's age all all reasons why I woukd keep 6 DEs this year if possible. 

He does, but I'm starting to think he's missing that Dawg attitude to use those attributes to push through people. With that size, strength and speed, he simply should be a bigger factor in games.
