I'd much rather these guys get their bodies properly tempered before the actual season begins, than to see them fall apart as soon as the action goes live.
Ol' Merv's problem was the bright lights. Zac's problem is slow starts to the season. Zac's problem seems more fixable. Just get these guys more work in the preseason. Have them ready out of the gate.
That doesn't mean he has to grind them to the point of injury. But this is football, not a country club.

The training, nutrition, medicine, fitness, playbooks and rules evolve. The athlete does not.
