You don't have to have facts to back up an opinion or it wouldn't be an opinion it would be a fact. Indisputable, and nondebatable.
Ok here is how the scientific method works.
You have a theory (or opinion)
You state the facts which support your theory
You draw conclusions based upon the facts which support your theory (opinion)
Someone else can look at the same facts and draw a different conclusion. That's how one can have multiple viable theories produced from the same set of data. The facts themselves are what they are, but most theories (opinions) are based upon multiple facts and how they relate.
The problem with a message board is that people take single facts and draw absolute conclusions, which is bad science and leads to bad opinions.
A theory (opinion) without facts, is as useful as tits on a bull. On an open forum like this, people can state opinions without facts, but they need to be prepared to be mocked ruthlessly for their idiocy.
