As far as the second part, I disagree because you might be able to coach that, but you can't coach a player to have the natural ability that Shemar has.
What specifically about the current coaches gives you this feeling?
The previous coaches were not able to do it.
Notre Dame last year as a team had 40 sacks, which was tied for 14th in FBS. However, they had 16 games to get there.
Boise St led the NCAA with 55 sacks, Ohio St had 53.
So that's the gauge for Golden.
Who has Montgomery coached up that's been a stud pass rusher?
The Pats last year didn't have a single guy on the team with >5.0 sacks.
I hear people talk up how Montgomery coached up Rashan Gary, who some may remember was also still had untapped potential, wasn't the most productive in college (but more than Stewart).
Gary hasn't hit double-digit sacks any year in the 6 years he's been in NFL.
While hasn't been a "bust," he hasn't been a sack leader either.
He's been about Clowney-level when it comes to sack production.
Preston Smith was the other common leader in sacks for GB during Montgomery's tenure, but he was already coming from WAS and had multiple years of 8 sacks, so I don't know how much "development" he still needed.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
