I was told the Bengals put players into buckets by round. It appears they had 2 LB's in round 2. Stewart was in round 1.
A reach is a term used by pudits based on their or consensus rankings. In the end, if the pick is not successful it was a reach in my opinion. It is impossible to determine outcome until they play in the NFL.
Yes the good teams do follow consensus because that's where players will tend to go. Meaning you really like a guy who's deamed to be in the 4th or 5th range you don't take him on day 2. You fill your team with as much high end talent as you can.
You judge the draft on the value at each pick. If the team isn't getting good value at there picks then it's not a good draft. Yes it may work out but your taking on more risk than you had to. We don't have to wait a few years to grade this draft. It's bad maybe they get lucky but that's exactly what it will be "luck". The offseason the Bengals put together is not good.
