The Bengals and Golden felt ge was the guy to help rebuild their defense and a major need since we only had 1 DE under contract next year. As I mentioned earlier, Bengals do not draft 250 to 255 LB. defensive ends. He was the best DE available on their board.
I have also said it was not my 1st choice, I wanted a LB to buid te defense around and wanted Campbell, they did not totally agree with me, but by picking 2 of them and one in round 2, they obviously felt it was the other position that wanted a talent infusion.
After watching the tape and doing a ton of reading I have seen an athletic freak who teams schemed to control (accoring to scouts in Texas) who was used all over the DL. I am very confortable with him with my caveat for any player barring injury he has an extremely high ceiling and very high floor as well.
I take that as a No, he wouldn't have been drafted in the first RD based off film and production. Physical traits are nice and all(shouldn't be ignored either) but production should be the first criteria in drafting players not the size of the prospect.
Shemar wasn't top 10 in any pass rushing stat amongst his draft class.
Edit he was top 10 in hurries with 33(according to pff) but outside of that he wasn't really productive.
