I know he was at 99 pitches, and it's probably the right move statistically to bring in a guy to get the last out (it worked).... but something in me just hates the fact that pitchers don't really get the opportunity to get themselves out of jams anymore. It really felt like that was always the defining characteristic of an elite clutch pitcher, but now nobody gets any chance to learn and grow/train that trait.
Same with going deeper into games. The less you give pitchers opportunities to do so, they less they're going to be able to do so. If all they're asked to do is go 5 innings, all they're going to be able to do is go 5 innings. Needs to start in the minors.
