I want a guard, but if we do not fix the defense Joe will be forcced to throw the ball 40 to 50 times a game enhancing the opportunity for him to be injured.
I think signing Risner for the fairly small amount he will get will end up helping the defense.
This allows them to use another pick next week on defense instead of having to pick a G. I think Risner/Patrick as the starters would be big upgrades over the previous years (yes the bar is very low). They could then cut Volson and draft a back up guard in the 5th or 6th round instead of having to take one within the first 3 rounds. The rookie can’t be much worse than Volson.
This also allows them to pick another defensive player earlier in the draft.
