RB: Chance to swing for the fences this year if only we could run block. Still expect this class to push alot of good players off rosters.
OL: Very weak at the top, lots of opportunity for player development if we weren't desperate for OG starters.
WR: Lots of mid talent in middle rounds, but weak at top and bottom. Doesn't really affect us.
TE: College isn't making the H-back TEs the Bengals want.
DE: Bengals 'type' is limiting, but lots of talent especially if they are willing to look at smaller DEs early, middle, and late.
DT: After last year's draft don't see another double dip or whether DT3 or NT type is a bigger perceived need. Lot's of players here.
LB: Not seeing value or great need here. Could use an infusion of talent but this may not be the year.
CB: It's never the wrong time to get a starting CB. Decent 2 rounds quickly tapers off to "prospects".
S: To me this is an OK class. The slot has stolen some of these guys, head-hunting safeties are liabilities, and 6-2 cover CBs abound. It's just become a difficult position to fill with DCs expectations varying widely.
I want to hit on a few of these.
OL - As usual falls off at a certain point. If the Bengals want a guard they feel comfortable with as a day 1 starter they have to use at least a top 100 (probably top 50) pick on one.
TE - I agree with the lack of true H-Backs. Funny enough Harold Fannin the most productive TE in the class is an H-back but he doesnt have any pure Y versatility. Mitchell Evans Notre Dame is the dude Im looking at as a H-Back/Y. I think the Raiders Michael Myer is still an option too.
DE - Bengals need a full time Defensive End that can both Pass Rush and Stop the Run from multiple alighnments for their 425 defense. They have to be willing to do the dirty work opposite Trey who will get most of the stand up Pass Rush reps.
DT - There isn't a Defensive Tackle on the roster that makes me shy away from taking one early in this Draft. I wouldnt even say guys like McKinnley Jackson's spots are safe.
S - There is not alot of talent at this position. Really there's 5 guys that will all could be gone by pick #81. (Wanna add that adding more top 100 defensive backs seems silly with zero pass rush.)
