Bowling Pin shaped bats make sense. Less wood at end of bat, so less weight.  Reds use to have free baseball gathering in Dayton every All-Star Game time in late 1960's. Reds hitting coach Ted Kluzewski kept talking Bat Speed. He said nothing against lifting weights. but you have to have Bat Speed. He would know, in 1950's only a few people hit 30 homers and batted over .300 most years.  Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Big Klu.   Rose, Bench, Morgan, Perez all said they had the best hitting coach in Big Klu and the best batting practice pitcher before each game in Joe Nuxhall.  Of course the Athletics had a good one in Joe DiMaggio and the Red Sox often had the help of Ted Williams.  Big Klu would probably love these new bats because they look like they add Bat Speed, which Klu said is the key to hitting. The faster your bat moves across the plate, the better. 

Reds just had back to back shut outs.  Maybe they need Torpedo Bats.
