Not only do we STILL not have one of the big 3 signed, we have not improved the team one bit in free agency. A team with a top 2 qb who missed the playoffs last year. Watching as quality contributors get signed one by one to reasonable deals while we sit on our hands. I am done spending anything on this team. I hope many of you will join me. They do not deserve our financial support. If they don't want to get with the times and do what is necessary to compete than they need to sell the ******* team!
As the folks at Locked On Bengals said, they added a couple floor-raisers, but no game changers.
Slaton should be an improvement for the run game, but their pass rush isn't improved at all.
Oren Burks is probably an upgrade over ADG for depth LB.
Perine just a role player.
With the players remaining, there aren't many left that can move the needle pass rush wise.
The Bengals are expected to be sitting at around $15-20 mill cap remaining if the BJ Hill and Slaton contracts end up being close to their APYs.
Bengals will reserve $5-10 mill for injuries+extensions.
So realistically, they should have the ability to add 1-2 more B-to-C tier guys to fill out their roster heading into the draft, primarily one OG.
What I would do:
Cut Zack Moss to free up ~$3 mill. With Perine back, Moss is very expendable.
Sign two starting caliber guards. Based on pass blocking metrics, two of the best options remaining that could potentially fit in their budget could be Teven Jenkins and Dalton Risner/Will Hernandez. Risner and Hernandez if trying to be the most budget-friendly.
All three have played both OG spots and played overall solid or better, so can't really go wrong with any of the three.
Draft a DE and DT to add some juice in the pass rush. I would prioritize DE now earlier in the draft with Hendrickson and Ossai being the best pass rushers at those spots and both in contract years.
I'd also look to draft an IOL, versatile TE, DB, and maybe another RB.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
