it's something all teams deal with. Us losing to New England at home cemented the pattern and clearly shows it's a systemic problem. Change is needed.
Or, as Boomer Esiason put it: " “He [Burrow] doesn’t have to play but like 20 to 30 to 40 plays, but he’s just got to get that feel of live football and not feel like the first time you’re out there like last year against the Patriots, he looked very uncomfortable in that game, and that’s a game that they should’ve put up 30 points in.” '

Irony is the 1st two games the defense avg 290 a game and avg 21 pts which was much better than many 2 game stretches, the offense avg around 245 and avg 16 points a game, probably the worse 2 games stretches from last year. I like the mentality change of playing starters in preseason opener..

A few thoughts:
Starting in 2023, cutdowns went from a succession of cut deadlines to what we have now, a cut from 90 to 53 on one day with the opening game 9 days later. IMO this doesn't help evaluation; most teams spend their time evaluating the bottom of the roster rather than giving the 1st and key 2nd string time to gel. The sheer number of preseason team leaders who end up getting cut is a clear sign that teams aren't using preseason to get ready for the real season.
If teams don't play players due to the risk of injury at the cost of losing games early in the season, the teams and therefore the league are admitting the point that the season is too long. When a team doesn't play any of their starters for a full preseason game, they didn't need the game.
The NFL is full of players with chronic injuries who rarely finish the season. IMO both the Bengals OTs fit this description. When this has occurred in the past, it has helped to destroy our season. Yet the idea that two starters both who were scored below 60 by pff don't need the snaps is stupid. It's a damned if we do, damned if we don't situation. And it was created by whoever developed the roster.
I'd like to see the 1st team out there for at least a quarter every preseason game. If we want to start fast we need to see if they can start fast. We need to find a good rotation on the DLine. We need to play with multiple DB groupings. The longsnapper, punter, and kicker need every chance to fix things before their mistakes cost us games.

Maybe or maybe not.

And for some regular season news
The NFL has suspended week 3 opponent Vikings receiver Jordan Addison for the first 3 games of the season.

Five Observations from Day 10 of Bengals Training Camp
A little praise for the rooke=ie LB's
https://www.bengals.com/news/five-observations-from-day-10-of-bengals-training-camp-august-5-2025
1. Starting Minutes in Preseason
Look for the starters to play roughly a quarter in Thursday's preseason opener vs Philly.
"It could go into the second quarter because of the reps we've gotten, but right now that's about the target we've got," Zac Taylor said.
2. Ridder Expected to See Action
After Joe Burrow and Jake Browning play most of the game, Desmond Ridder will likely get in. He's enjoying watching Burrow.
"He's the fastest I've seen as far as reaction time to the defense and knowing where to go with the ball," Ridder said. "It's like watching art out there."
3. Newton Bringing Energy
I enjoy watching Josh “Fig” Newton on the sideline. Nobody offers his teammates more constant encouragement.
"You never know what a 'come on' or a 'let's go' will do for somebody," Newton said. "It could motivate 'em. It could settle 'em down. It could help 'em make a play."
4. Rookie LBs Impressing
Demetrius Knight has earned frequent praise at camp, but fellow rookie Barrett Carter has also been impressive.
"I think he's only gotten better every day," Taylor said. "He's got a lot of upside, and I've been really pleased with how all of the linebackers have developed."
5. Legendary Respect
Bengals legendary left tackle, Anthony Munoz, respects the team's current one Orlando Brown Jr.
"When I stand next to him, I feel like a little kid with his size and length," Munoz said. "I love his leadership qualities. He's engaged, he's teaching — not to mention his level of play"
Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

Zac has apparently said he’s open to giving Rivers a look at guard. Things definitely sound very dicey wrt the OL.

Or they like Rivers athleticism.

This is the problem with the wait and see approach as it pertains to the Bengals. The house can be on fire and they won't do anything to address it unless it actually starts falling down.

But Long was I’m going to Chase on this critical play even if 3 guys are on him. Wilson was more about using his best player as a decoy.
This year we may have the luxury of both more so than ever before. I think this offense provided the staff does their part with creativity and Burrow spreads the ball around more could be NFL special not just Cincy special. Achieving that will depend on Isovias,Burton, and Fant’s performance
What did Chuck and Kevin have to say about 2005 when we shut y'all down with a bunch of no name 2 star recruits in Norman

If you’re talking about trying out your 5th round rookie over your 3rd rounder, or your “big FA splash” on the OL (lol) then there’s a problem.

Gary Patterson a great coach. We lost 2 OL starters in August. It was our worst team that decade. We were breaking in a freshman QB. We got beat. Great game. Which others do you want to talk about?

Oh I missed starting. I heard having him try all over.

I'm mostly playing. I know 2005 was a down year for y'all. But was a big deal to go into Norman, first game of the year and shut down Adrian and Co. Hell of a game to be a part of. 2014, also a down year for OU. Paul Dawson (remember him Bengals fans?) pick 6 and then stuffing Perine on 4th down to end it was a great game too. That 2014 TCU team should have played for a Natty.
Otherwise, y'all mostly owned us. UT OTOH. We were their daddy for the entirety of our B12 stay.
2015 when Gary went for 2 on the Road when both Baker and Boykin were hurt was an all time what could have been. TCU wins that and they are in the CFP.
2008 with Sophomore Dalton vs Senior Sam Bradford. Y'all SPANKED us. I was on that team too.
But yeah, GP was a great defensive mind. Truly a genius. I legit still have nightmares about him MF'ing me in practice.

It happened in 2021 that KC signed former 1st-rounders Kyle Long to be the RG. He got hurt in Camp and they rolled with their 6 round rookie.
It worked out pretty good.
