Notes From Training Camp 2025

I took it as meaning his hand specifically. Ibuprofen will be his best friend.

I saw a clip of Paul dehner before practice and he was talking about mims needing to realize what he can play thru. Whether hes 100 percent or not he can still be efficient. He said it in a way that sounded like he had heard that from someone in the building. Mims comments seem to point to the staff making that point to him.

I am starting to get excited with all the clips and news coming out. As well as the 1st preseason game this Friday. Someone needs to start the thread for game week. Alot of stuff to to talk about amount of time for starters, what we are hoping to see, and some lower string guys to keep an eye on.

Some players can play thru pain. Jalen Williams of the OKC Thunder tore his scapholunate ligament, in his wrist in April ( wasn’t that Joe’s injury as well but don’t know the degrees) and played magnificently thru the playoffs. Had 40 points game 5. I know the Doc who shot his wrist 40 times. But some just can’t. I don’t care but we need Mims.

Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

SO I guess Ja'marr is not playing?

Don’t follow. Looking at the depth chart my first observation was an injury at safety looks to be an issue.

Yeah, I agree, I also just noticed Chase is not listed as WR

One of the podcasts sia that Mims is wearing a soft cast on the right hand.  If it is his thumb that is unstable he may end up wearing some support on that hand all season.  Just something to watch...

looks like Tee is going to be playing all over the field in order to take advantage of that height mismatch he has on so many DBs.  Imagine trying to degense the Bengals when they can play Ja'Marr, Tee, or Gesicki all in the slot depending on the situation

Quote:"That's what they are trying to get out of me, put me in different places and different spots on the field," Higgins said. "Sometimes I'm in the slot, running routes I haven't run." Higgins believes he can take advantage of that as "a big guy in the slot, usually having a nickel on me, a smaller guy."
"We have to play with a Santa Clara standard."

I’ve known several OC’s both in college (OU) and NFL ( no none are meeting me for lunch or on speed dial just minor acquaintances so not pounding my chest here). But it seems they are either married to their scheme or their matchups. Chuck Long was always about winning matchups and Kevin Wilson was more about the scheme. Of course they overlap. But Long was I’m going to Chase on this critical play even if 3 guys are on him. Wilson was more about using his best player as a decoy.

This year we may have the luxury of both more so than ever before. I think this offense provided the staff does their part with creativity and Burrow spreads the ball around more could be NFL special not just Cincy special. Achieving that will depend on Isovias,Burton, and Fant’s performance

How many times has Burrow been healthy in TC and not restricted? How many times have all of the major offensive pieces been availabe to practice in TC over the years?

I bring it up because simply not much so very hard for an offense to instill new ways like Tee lining up in different places when they can't practice in training camp. I may be wrong, but our offense has a chance to be top 3 in the NFL in 2025 even with a bad to average set of starting guards.

I noticed that yesterday when I looked at the roster. Don't remember seeing Burton either.

Ja'Marr is listed with Jermaine as his back-up at the very top of the list

IDK what you guys are talking about, Chase is clearly on the depth chart released by the team.

Hendrickson is the one missing. And even he is still on it, though listed as 4th string due to the holdout.

The first one doesn't usually meam much,,but aside from Trey, and maybe Fant, I think the starters (except LS) and most of the 2nd string guys are settled.

I’m leaning to more that Joey B needs training camp. Calf in ‘23 and wrist in ‘24. Joe is a slow starter I’m convinced. Maybe because of injury but he’s a precision guy. Precision takes practice.

It really doesn't have to do with precision, but more because the njury and illness impact

His strength and throwing motions were impacted because of the injuries so basically he was starting from ground zero each year by either having to relearn his complete throwing motion (kee, calf, wrist) or having to regain muscle mass and strengh (ruptured appendix)

I don't think even Joe truly knows what he needs from a complete normal training camp since he hasn't had one

Then he needs to ramp up (earlier) leading into the season.

They can't go into a year working through the first couple games to "get on track". That needs to be done before game #1 starts, so that they hit the ground running. No excuses, get ready earlier, come out firing.

**

Tee Higgins 6'4"
Mike Gesicki 6'6"
Noah Fant 6'4"
Andrei Iosivas 6'3"
Ja'Marr Chase 6'0"

And all talented.

There are going to be so many mismatches for the defense to try and defend. It is going to be sleepless nights for opposing DCs.
