Did the Browns F - up the Draft?
#1
If they were going to draft Shedeur, why wouldn't they draft Travis Hunter?

Early in the process it looked like it would be Shedeur at 2, and then it changed to Abdul Carter.

If they got Abdul Carter opposite Myles Garret that would have been insane.
I'm very happy this didn't happen (happy for Burrow's sake).

So not only do the Browns not go for the scariest option of having two premier pass rushers..
But the Browns don't draft Travis Hunter to pair with Shadeur.

I guess they get a few picks out of it.
In my eyes the ideal play would be to get Travis and Shadeur; they already have the chemistry (like Burrow/Chase).

Not saying college will translate for Shadeur, but I just don't understand the logic of the browns here.

It's a two player draft and you don't draft one of those two players.

Jimmy Haslim forced the FO to pick Shadeur.  Just like always he shows he is F'ing clueless and can't get out of his own way.  He is the perfect owner for the Browns for under his leadership they will always be the "stains".

Time will tell if they messed it up or not, just like any other draft. They still got a high pick at #5, and an additional 2nd rounder and 4th.

Hindsight is 20/20. They genuinely may not have expected to take Sanders. Either because of how far he fell or because of ownership mettling. Having Sanders and Hunter on the same team would add pressure to have Hunter primarily play WR (although I guess this is Jacksonville's plan anyways) to have the connection with Sanders. Also pressure to start Sanders when he is clearly a prospect that would benefit from time on the bench learning behind a vet.

Who knows, but taking a flyer on Sanders when they did was about as low-risk a draft move as they come.

taking a 5th round flyer on sanders doesn't hurt them at all... especially sense he wasn't even the first QB they drafted this year

QB Dillon Gabriel, Oregon

is also on the roster.

Browns need a lot of players on rookie contracts (hence trading for more picks) till they get out of Watson contract

The contrary view is that taking Sanders in the fifth pretty much tells Gabriel that he doesn't matter.  On top of that this was a pick forced by the owner, which means no one from the QB coach to the GM wanted Shadeur, and Haslim over road them all.  Makes for a hugely dysfunctional QB room......even more so than normal for the stains.

I would have taken Abdul Carter.

They messed up by not getting an elite player IMO.

They obviously didn't know that Sanders would fall to round fifth round, but the stupidest part for me is taking Sanders after taking Gabriel that early. Makes sense that Haslim forced the pick because it makes no logical sense. I don't even think Mike Brown in the 90s/ealry 00s would have made that move.

Had this been a strong quarterback class, I can maybe understand because you'd be getting two stars and maybe you could trade one, but it's not like any of these guys are Peyton Manning.

I thought the days of senior citizen owners making big calls were over, but I guess not.

It's a positive for us, especially if he forces the coaches to play Sanders and they can't get any value of their quarterback room.

I tried asking my friend from college (die-hard Browns fan and he was an accounting major, so we had a lot of classes together) and even he refuses to talk about it lol.

Do you have anything back up this wild (and seemingly baseless) speculation?  Everything I've read indicates Haslam did not play a role.  Here's an article on the Browns and Sanders:

Aside from your poor attitude, I will answer.  You know it's responses like this that get us chastised by management with "play nice" rules.  I could say more, but I'm playing "nice".

I believe I heard it on the Pat McAfee show, but maybe not.  Was just cruising through post draft videos on youtube and heard it.  Didn't surprise me, so I shared.  *shrugs*  If you demand more than that, well you're out of luck.

I don't think I have a poor attitude, i was just curious.  Perhaps i could've worded it a bit different but it doesn't change the fact that it's wild and baseless...it's just wild and baseless from Pat McAfee or whomever said it on that show.

I don't demand any more than what you provided.  Thank you for sharing and I apologize for the delivery in my questioning.
