I hope Ravens don't take my guy Campbell from Bama or one of the 2 best safeties
Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

If each of them can contribute 5+ sacks, things wont be so bleak. It’s not really (at all), the pick I wanted (I was leaning Harmon at the time), but you figure it’s not only a 2025 need, but also future as well. Guess we will see:
Plus, I think we are bringing back Trey for a couple more years anyways once everything cools down.
It was interesting to me that we didn't even meet or contact Shemar and than this pick happened.
I am not going to say any of these players are going to breakout because I am sick of being wrong about Ossai namely, but we could
be in a much worse spot talent wise with Stewart and Murphy. Plus I like Cedric Johnson and Cam Sample.

I thought Whatever said Ja'Marr Chase was the most hated first round pick of all time lol

Honestly any edge player they could realistic be picking with their position was going to have questions.
It’s hard to say how he does but he seemed pretty pumped on tv.
He could be a sleeper great player. He could suck too. We’ll find out in a couple years.
Bengals needed to add to their dline/pass rush this offseason and have done that. Sign Trey and sort out the secondary.

He had a 10.5% pass rush win rate and a 7.4% run stop rate in college.
That's the worst run stop rate and 2nd worst pass rush win rate among all defensive ends ranked in the top 100 on most boards (Carter, Pearce, Scourton, Williams, Walker, Tuimoloau, Stewart. Imanmielen, Jackson, Sawyer, Green, Kennard, Ezeiruaku, Swinson, Gillotte, Josiah Stewart, Jared Ivey)
Players with a pass rush win rate less than 14% in college have a nearly 50% bust rate, with only a few true standouts in recent NFL history.
Really, the only two are Rashan Gary and Travon Walker in the first round.
I just...I just really feel no hope that he becomes a good NFL player.
Here's hoping our coaches know something that the rest of the NFL don't...
Great post. Terrible pick. Awful.

Great read. Everyone needs to read it. It is not making excuses for him, it is teaching us his role which was play run first. A lot of college kids looking for a big pay day do their on thing and not what the team asked of them. It appears he did what was asked.
I loved this comment
You also can’t run away from him, he’s shown a relentlessly hot motor that causes him to run down plays from the backside, including screens where he has no reason to be involved in the play, but there he is blasting your receiver.

I think this is the classic draft your replacement a year before Bengals theory. I hope not as that has not proven to work out ever for us. I think we ask Trey to play out his last year and only sign him if Stewart does indeed look like a bust.

I am over my disappointment stage and on to hope and pray stage with Stewart
Zabel. Campbell. Starks.
I think Jackson is at least a plus starter.

Yeah. He won't be over-matched physically. Time will tell, right?

It was interesting that he played as a DE 3-4, a fair amount of time in college. I also liked the part where he might have been too explosive, and he may need to slow down. I recommend everyone reading that link.
On the tape, it’s clear what Stewart’s most defining pass rush trait is: the forceful speed to power. We define explosiveness a lot as guys going around a lineman with bursts of speed, but I think explosion through a lineman is just as valid, and even more prominent in the NFL. If you think about the last two NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year winners, Los Angeles Rams’ EDGE Jared Verse and Houston Texans’ EDGE Will Anderson Jr., both guys came into the NFL with the most absurd conversion of speed to power. Stewart is going to come into the NFL able to do that, and do it really well.
If there’s one thing I think Stewart needs to improve on, it’s simply finishing plays. I think he’s such a forceful and explosive athlete that he flies in out of control and ends up flying past the QB or not being able to throttle down to get the sack. It’s very much like if you gave an eight-year-old the keys to an F1 car; it would look awesome but some of the throttling down stuff would be an adventure. I think Stewart gets unfairly labeled a “project” when some of his work and pass rush plan is that of a first year starter who can be a superstar--he just needs to figure out how to finish.

Damn you know Starks will shine in Balt. I did think they would go Emmanwori.
Some good players still left and could Samders slide to the 2nd round? Unless there’s a trade it looks like it.

Yea, I agree with BengalBug.
Margus Hunt actually produced in college.
Similar athletic and size profile though.
Margus Hunt did have 1 5 sack season in Indy though!

Somebody on twitter made the comment like "what in the hell was Texas A&M doing with their defensive line?"
They had all these studs and played a very passive, stop the run defense. I have a feeling he will be a much better pro than college guy from a numbers standpoint.

Murphy's and Stewart's sack total could very well be like Blutarski's GPA....."0.0".

Literally the dumbest thing we could have realistically done.
Barron or Campbell would have helped us with that pick. Even Mike Green.

Regardless of how you feel about Stewart, making a risky pick was just dumb. We need help now, not in 2 years.
Zabel, Jackson, Harmon, Starks, Emmanwori, Campbell, Barron, Johnson. They all make us better Day 1.
I don't think Stewart does. We needed holes filled. Not more question marks.

The issue with Hunt was he was older when drafted.
I'd guess that Srewart is atleast an above average DE and maybe he's a Pro Bowl player. Can't teach the gifts he has.

Yes, Shemar can blow up the run game and it leads to others making plays for him. Not a bad thing at all.
He needs to learn how to finish and so does Myles Murphy, Montgomery will have to be up to the task.

I don't know, hope not. We needed another disruptor on the DL and Stewart should be one whether we like the pick or not.
We gave Trey a 32 mil per year contract that he passed up, I think he would take it easily over just taking 16 mil like he is owed this year this
late in his career hoping for another big contract.

Zabel = small school same as Volson
Campbell = hurt to start the season even if I love the guy
Starks = might of been a bit of a reach at our pick but would of liked him for sure over Geno Stone

Fantastic athlete, mid-level player. Share a lot of similarities with Murphy.

That's my biggest issue. If we had a good defense, then you go riskier.
I do think Stewart will be ok.
