Detroit injury ends game - Sled21 - 08-09-2025 https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2025/08/08/morice-norris-injury-update-what-we-know-about-detroit-lions-safety/85586097007/ Quote:Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris left the field in an ambulance after suffering an apparent head injury at the beginning of the fourth quarter of the team's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, Aug. 8.That he has feeling is huge. That hit left him completely motionless. Scary stuff. Prayers for this young man. RE: Detroit injury ends game - TheLeonardLeap - 08-09-2025 Glad he has feeling and I hope he fully recovers. - - - - - That said, human concern for an injury aside I am also concerned about the sudden trend in just ending games. I can't think of a game ever ending early prior to the Bills game. Ryan Shazier got paralyzed on the field and they still finished. Joe Theismann's career ended on the field horribly and they still finished. Johnny Knox got broken in half and has his career end and they still finished. I feel like it's a VERY recent change that they no longer finish games when a serious injury happens. The Lions in particular have massively raised their ticket prices twice in the last two years by an average of 30% last year and another 24% this year. If you buy a season ticket, you have to pay hundreds of dollars for shitty preseason games. Are they refunding their attendance? Not to mention Krumries horrific leg injury and the leg injury to that QB (Was it Theisman?) who's name escapes me momentarily. That said, the coaches decided not to play out the game because there were only a few minutes left (6 I think) and it was a Pre-Season game. Probably Theismann that you're thinking of, although there was also one for Alex Smith where he nearly had to get his leg amputated. But at least he was able to come back 2 years later for 1 final token season just to say that the injury didn't end his career. It wasn't just 6 minutes. 14 minutes and 50 seconds were left in the game when he got injured, it was the first play of the 4th quarter. Also none of them can say it because they look like a bad dude and social media loves a target to feel morally superior to so they're always looking for one: How pissed would you be if you're a roster bubble player or a practice squad bubble player and they just cancelled what may be your only chance (potentially in your entire life) to put some good film on tape for teams to see? If you removed the 4th quarter, Gary Brightwell didn't have a single carry and Joe Giles-Harris wouldn't have the INT. That opportunity could be the difference between making a roster (or PS) and selling insurance. (Plus again, season tickets still cost big money for preseason games, and they don't charge less for food/drink/parking for preseason either.) |
