Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - BFritz21 - 06-23-2023 I know Lou runs the defense, but Zac said that they want as many pass rushers on the field as possible! Taylor thinks they can find packages to get all our pass rushers on the field: It's not letting me copy and paste the article, but it mentions how we have Murphy, Hendrickson, Ossai, and Hubbard, and then DJ Reader mentions how no one remembers sacks in the first quarter but they do remember them in big moments. He also mentions how pressuring the quarterback to make bad throws or make quick decisions, which I have always argued is sometimes better than a sack, is something that they try do to. Mike Hilton mentions how it does make their lives easier. I'm excited for this because, like the Giants showed in the first Super Bowl win over the Pats, a good pass rush is the best way to stop even the most explosive offense in NFL history. I remember when the Giants had linemen and linebackers standing around the line pre-snap so the Pats never knew where the rushers would come from or who would come. I'm loving it because, with an improved line, we'll score a lot and force teams to throw the ball to keep up, so a pass rush is very important! WHO-DEY! Certainly the possibilities and versatility make it exciting. But one thing that stands out is our team speed and the defenses versatility. On a side note, I read Carter (who is fast) added 20 lbs. of muscle. He may be overlooked, but with being mentored by DJ and it seems a desire to get better he could be a breakout player for us in 2023. I mentioned that in another thread because I'm excited about him and the troubles offenses will have blocking him! Getting pressure and speed from the interior will make A HUGE difference and leave other guys single blocked! RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - Housh - 06-23-2023 Our best pass rush package will probably be a NASCAR package of Ossai, Hubbard, Murphy and Hendrickson. If Murphy works out we’ve got pass rush for days RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - Soonerpeace - 06-24-2023 (06-23-2023, 11:59 PM)Housh Wrote: Our best pass rush package will probably be a NASCAR package of Ossai, Hubbard, Murphy and Hendrickson. I’m not sure that small is the way to go. Looks good on paper but inside guys are physically at a disadvantage and a speed rush they can be pushed to the side. With Watson and Lamar we don’t want them to escape. To me all 4 of these guys can do work on the inside. This would be fun to see. You would absolutely want to make sure the other team is passing though RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - NATI BENGALS - 06-24-2023 I used to be against us taking the ball first and always wanting the second half kickoff. But I get it. And I like it. We are going to score early and often. The sooner we put points on the board the better. And I think it ends up helping prevent teams from trying to ground and pound us. And being able to get after the QB all starts with stopping the run. We had a championship caliber DL. Lost nothing. And added a first round DE with elite traits. If our starting 4 keeps doing what they did and our young guys on rookie contracts make improvements.. it’s gonna be awesome. There were a lot of bad OLs in the league last year. We might be feasting this year RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - Soonerpeace - 06-24-2023 (06-24-2023, 03:25 AM)Housh Wrote: To me all 4 of these guys can do work on the inside. I’m better with keeping him on the field most of the time and subbing for Hill. We were 5th in ‘22 and 7th in ‘21 in rush defense. Our pass defense in the middle of the pack. We were near the bottom in sacks. Have to think a better pass rush could really help. The depth in the DL could factor in a big way and actually the OL. Philly, KC, SF all better in the trenches than Cincy. We improve there lookout NFL. RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - Synric - 06-24-2023 4 Defensive Ends as the front 4 is like the 5 wide receiver thing. It looks good on paper but the opportunities are few and far between. RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - Graphicguy - 06-24-2023 Lou likes delayed blitzes and dropping as many into coverage as he can. I don’t see this changing much. Maybe become more exotic blitz packages and edge rushers disguised and dropping back into coverage. Aside from that, I don’t know how they can add more pass rushers than they already use without revamping the defense. I’d expect he’ll find the right pieces to make it more dynamic and versatile with the first 3 rookies drafted. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/film-room/2023/lou-anarumo-cincinnatis-defensive-wizard RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - Synric - 06-24-2023 (06-24-2023, 11:28 AM)Graphicguy Wrote: Lou likes delayed blitzes and dropping as many into coverage as he can. Earlier this off-season I was on board with a better blitzing off ball linebacker but with the Germaine Pratt resigning that really killed that idea lol. Maybe Daxton Hill can add a little more as a run/pass blitzer. I can see Hubbard being used as a standup LB to get another potential pass rusher on the field or some 3-3-5 with Hill-Reader-Murphy as the DL and Trey and Sam as OLB's. RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - The D.O.Z. - 06-24-2023 So I guess we will have to wait another year for Lou to unleash his 1-1-9 packages on unsuspecting offenses. RE: Taylor Wants A Lot Of Pass Rushers On The Field...... - SunsetBengal - 06-24-2023 I don't believe what Zac said was to imply that we simply load up the defense with pass rushers and send them. Everyone knows what happens when you have a quick reading QB, like Joe Burrow for example, and how they will simply exploit the middle of the field and beat you into submission. Rather than loading up with a bunch of pass rushing specialists, how about considering every defender a pass rusher on any given defensive call? I mean our LBs have grown into a very competent unit in covering the middle of the field, why would you blitz one and leave a huge, vacant window open just past the LOS? No matter what, the defense still has to stop the run in order to put teams into a "must pass" situation. I'm thinking that by wanting "a lot of pass rushers" on the field, it should be interpreted as "we can adjust our coverages, in order to make any given player on the field a pass rusher on command". Everyone knows that when you send extra rushers, someone is left to single coverage that should likely merit support. With a young and retooled secondary as the one the Bengals will be fielding, I would feel it foolhardy to put them all on islands. He did get a bunch in a short stretch last year, but that has been an outlier: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/ReadD.00.htm |
