Reclamation project for Jenkins? He's been a good guard the past few years. Never allowed >17 total pressures or 4 sacks in a season at Guard. They would get a 3rd round comp pick if they kept him until his contract was up. Hendrickson only costs the Bengals 16 million to keep him this season so it makes no sense to trade him for a 3rd round pick. It seems to me Trey and his agent overvalued his worth across the league. The Bengals now might not have the money to pay him their original offer since they expected to lose him and used 7 million of their cap to bring Ossai back. If Hendrickson had signed the Bengals offer do they spend the 7 million on Ossai instead of looking at a deep draft? Trey's agent might have screwed Trey over on this one. Trey may have to lower his price for everyone including the Bengals offer unless he wants to play for 16-18 million this season and try again next year. Rosen is not afraid to give up a first round pick and they also have a llotof picks they could add to the #1. I hope we keep Trey. Amother broadcaster acted like if we got a 2nd or 3rd for Trey, we should take it. Is our FO's job to help others win or us win? It doesn’t seem like there is a report of another team offering any more/less than the bengals . I bet Trey comes back and either plays out this year, or re-signs for less than what bengals originally offered. He doesn't have serious ones, but he has them kind of a lot. One of the knocks on potentially signing Becton last year was the games he had missed due to injures. He played 16 games in 2023 before the Eagles signed him but the two previous years, he had only played 1 game. I dont know about Jenkins. Like Becton, he could be a bit of a risk but he was a high 2nd round draft pick that has played well. If healthy, he is a good guard and would be a good signing. Exactly, and when you're shopping the "Great Value" brand at Wal Mart, Jenkins seems pretty good. (03-11-2025, 07:35 PM)Luvnit2 Wrote: You can't take a contract signed and assume the cap hit is applied equally over the term of the deal. You also can't use the maximun number as a basis. If. guy signs a 3 year maximum contract at 30 million, it does not mean the cap hit is 10 million year 1, 10 milion year 2 and 10 million year 3. The cap hit is based on the guaranteed cash in the deal. So in the example of 3 years at 30 million, if only 60% is guaranteed at signing, the true number is closer to 18 million for 3 years versus 30 million. Thanks for the post. I understand the basics of varying up the cap hit year to year. What I'm wondering is how much cap space we have, and some sort of example of how we could re-sign all three and make it work under the cap this year. If I were to see an example of how it would work then it would be easy to see how much excess they have to spend if any. If they sign Higgins to a long term deal, they likely gain at least 16 million If they trade him, they gain 26 million so lets' say we sign him to a long deal. Chase, if we extend him, we can gain 12 million. Burrow, if we restructure him we can gain and 25 million. So, we keep all 3 and we gain 53 million additional cap dollars for 2025. We currently have around 28 million after all of the re-signing and adds in FA whch incudes our 2025 draft pick allocation. 28 + 53 = 81 million left to extend Trey (don't have to do it, he is under contract) and spend another 50 million to build the trenches at guard and at DE/Edge We have a ton of money if we push to future years. But, how much will they be willing to push down the road? The Bengals dont have the same cap space now as they did when they gave Hendrickson the offer. He may have to take less now with the Bengals or less than what he is seeking from other teams. Please tag me, I will run through brick walls for 23 million in one year. Unless you feel that your opinion is educated and there is a lack thereof in the counter. I see nothing wrong with criticising the Bengals organization. They have given fans many reasons to do so over the years. I disagree on what you said about having a few elite players on the team that are viewed as elite having a toxic or negative effect on the team as a whole. The best thing the Bengals have going for them is they are very much a team (almost family-like). The culture is good. Within a good team culture everyone is celebrating everyone else's success and nobody wants to see others fail. I thought the top players on the Bengals handled the failure as best as they could last year. Burrow and Chase for example could have blamed the defense in post game interviews--but they would always say stuff like, 'yeah, but we could have closed the game out earlier (pointing to a late drive they failed on)'. (not a word for word quote but that's the type of thing they would say). I agree that more humility needs to be used in todays discussions. There is too much name calling and strawman arguments going around that furthers the divide. It takes a concerted effort by all parties to be civil and talk things out rationally. Things get too emotionally charged. I remember in school we had classes on forming arguments and arguing one side or another and I didn't like it. You were taught not to concede and discuss openly. You were taught to butt heads. It's part of the culture and the media reinforces it. I get what you're saying here. But I'm more looking to an example of how they would split up the cap hit on all 3 if they are on longterm deals. Assume Chase gets 5 years at $43 mil per year. Higgins gets 4 at $30 mil per year. Assume Trey gets 4 years at $40 mil per year. I believe those are roughly their going rates? So how do they use their 28 million in cap space to make that work? What do their cap hits look like each year for each player to make it work? The first thing I would want to know is what the total cap space they would have (this year) with their current deals being erased, then how the cap hit looks year to year for all 3.
