Marlins do everything right from making contact, to moving runners over to getting a fly ball. Reds haven’t done that consistently all year.

Reminder that Nick Martinez this year is the 3rd highest paid Red in franchise history. Giving him a qualifying offer still baffles me.

The way this team is ran is mind numbing.

RE: Reds July 2025 Thread - TheLeonardLeap - 07-08-2025

EDLC having a mini-slump this month.

6-27 this month with 0 XBH, 0 SB, 0 BB, and 7 Ks.

Last had an XBH on June 23rd, last had a SB on June 27th.

You called it.

Replacement for Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Out of the 5 main SPs this year (Greene, Abbott, Lodolo, Singer, Martinez), Martinez has the highest ERA of all of them, according to stats on reds.com.
Abbott - 2.15
Greene - 2.72
Lodolo - 3.58
Singer - 4.32
Martinez - 4.85

Martinez pitched great against SD and had a couple relief appearances, but the two games after SD and the 1 game before the 2 relief appearances, Martinez has allowed 21 earned runs across 3 starts against MIN, BOS, and MIA. In those 3 games, he pitched a total of 14.1 innings.

I wouldn't be opposed to shipping Martinez off between the ASB and July 31 (trade deadline) and let someone else get some valuable experience at this point.
Martinez has no future with the Reds beyond this season.

This team is the poster child for .500 teams. It's been said by posters on here including me, but they just simply are.

I've had my hopes up like 3 times this season. They'll go on a little run, four game winning streak, go 5-1 or whatever. And at times vs. better teams. But then inevitably they crash back to earth, and often against lesser competition.

Throwing errors, over running bases/bad base running, no offense, pitchers getting rocked for 7 runs in one inning and so on and so on. Four, five six losses in a row and back to .500 we go, or below.

Just can't get over the hump with the current roster and all the guys constantly on the IL. Close but no cigar

The main problem with the Reds, is that they can not hit with runners in scoring position. They are not a polished team. Look how many times Miami got the hit, fly ball, move runners up, etc.  Miami will over take Reds before this season is over. The Reds look like they are playing an individual sport, where other teams are playing a team sport. There is no I in team, until that philosophy changes, this team will not change.

I just don't think Reds have good enough hitters in general.
In the last 15 days, here are the BAs for the Reds hitters who are currently active.
Steer - .366
EDLC - .294
Benson - .258
CES - .250
Lux - .240
Espinal - .214
Friedl - .192
McLain - .185
Trevino - .182
Hays - .175
Stephenson - .167
Hinds - .087 (is this dude ever gonna be able to hit MLB pitching?)
Marte - .083

This shows that aside from 2 Steer and EDLC, no one else is really hitting well at all.
You could maybe put Benson and CES in there if you consider .250-.260 satisfactory, but the rest of the dudes are just flat out not getting hits consistently.

Seems like just about every season they fall to pieces right before or after the All Star break, this year looking no different.

It's literally drained my interest in the team, and the sport at large. I want to believe. I check the standings, and see the run they may be on, but deep down I know where this is going.

Reds haven’t t been able to hit since the strike shorted season where they made the playoffs and didn’t score a run in 2 games against Atlanta. They keep trying to build a team that hits home runs to win games. That just doesn’t work against good pitching. Too many strikeouts without contact, that is the biggest problem with this team.

I think the Reds have been trying to bring in new coaches multiple times to try to remedy that, but at what point do we start looking at the talent itself and determine no one can turn water into wine for some (most?) of these guys?

Then you have to say it’s the front office that can’t judge talent and don’t know what they are doing.

Exactly.

Will Castellini be willing to replace Krall and crew, and if so, when?
We know Bob won't remove his son as President and CEO, so that's off the table.

At 83 years old, I don't know if Bob would be willing to change out Krall for someone else.
It may not happen until Phil runs the show (where ya gonna go?!)

3 run first is a much better start!

That ovation that Abbot got, was a really loud one. It gave me goosebumps. I have always been high on this kid. Our pitching rotation looks very promising. Could be scary good, and soon.
