Nice post. Those are the questions. Regardless this hasn't been a good look for him especially and will no doubt affect his play on the field. Regardless this hasn't been a good look for him especially and will no doubt affect his play on the field. 1) when the season starts and he is in uniform playing..absolutely nobody will give a darn about this 2) minicamps are like tag football and non participation will not affect his play one way or another..As far as the intangibles..the play book, scheme..etc..Stewart was there the majority of the time taking it all in. If he plays bad, people will point to this, even though it won't have mattered. 2) I agree and corner isn't like quarterbacks and receivers or defensive/offensive linemen because you don't really need to work with your teammates to be able to produce. Corners are pretty much on an island and there's not much practice needed as long as he knows schemes and coverages. They have to coordinate with the linebackers and other DBs to make sure they have the correct check and they have to understand when/where to pass receivers off. There's a lot of little stuff that goes in to that. Leverage, jam techniques, depth etc. They need a lot of practice. Defensive coverages are fascinating and can become quite complex, especially for things like pattern matching. Cornerback is the most isolated position on the field and a lot of it relies on instincts. I agree that it would be better if he were here, but it shouldn't really impact his play. Sure, he may have preferred to run his CBs in man at the college level, where he had a stacked roster at all 3 levels of the defense. I have a feeing that zone is still going to be the mainstay. Why else would he be having all of the DBs, regardless of "true position" practicing all of the roles in his secondary? His rookie season is already teetering on a wash. This would all but end any hope of him contributing. 1) his rookie season is not teetering 2) he is not a boom or bust prospect and missing a week of tag football has absolutely no impact RE: 5 Predictions That Will Come True Before Season - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 07-08-2025 (07-07-2025, 04:13 PM)ERIC1 Wrote: 1) when the season starts and he is in uniform playing..absolutely nobody will give a darn about this Maybe, depends on how Shemar plays. If he is effective, yeah, nobody will give a damn. There is a lot more to practice than you are making out. |
