The Bengals otoh expect Burrow and 2 WR’s to carry the entire team. Night and day difference in the way our FO’s operate. Yeah, and Lamar is already hinting at wanting a raise. Even so, they continue to try to improve their personnel. RE: One or two moves.... - Joelist - 06-22-2025 Here we go again... Before freaking over the Rats signing Jaire Alexander remember why he was available - he has had major injury issues and was stalled in contract negotiations. Green Bay took a 17 million dollar cap hit when they cut him. As to the veteran Guards out there, it is not even clear if Scherf is retiring. That leaves Risner. Lucas Patrick has played starter at an average to slightly above average level and his two worst seasons (Chicago 2022 / 2023) were with having to block for Justin Fields with his zero pocket awareness and lack of pocket presence (as the Steelers learned last season). Fairchild was one of the Guard prospects holding a plug and play label (the last one I believe). Also add in the new OL coach whose strength is coaching players up. Then you have defense. Once Trey and Stewart sign (they will) the DL will be ready. Slaton was a huge pickup both literally and figuratively. Our lack of a true NT last season caused issues and Slaton is also already asserting leadership on the line. Knight is doing the same at LB and remember we also signed Oren Burks and drafted Barrett Carter too. They retooled the LB room and remember the defensive picks were based on input from Golden who is installing his defense - note that the players brought in all have in common being good tacklers. Nothing in life or football is guaranteed. but overall the moves this offseason make sense especially in light of the coaching changeovers and who was out there in the first place. RE: One or two moves.... - Nicomo Cosca - 06-22-2025 Yeah, yeah. Just like Henry was washed last year when they signed him. ![]() Point is they continually make big moves and swing for the fences. RE: One or two moves.... - bfine32 - 06-22-2025 No doubt we should be as awesome as the Ravens; They've won 3 playoff games since 2012. I even missed it when I went back to research, I gave them a 2nd to TEN. But hey "only 2 fewer" than the Bengals since Covid. No arguement about LaMar RE: One or two moves.... - XsandOs - 06-22-2025 With $32M in cap space, which basically means $22M because Bengals keep about $10M in reserve, what moves can they make? If Shemar's $9M bonus prorated over 4 years added to a minimum base salary takes $3M of space, then Bengals are left with $19M. If the thought was to give Trey $12M and use the remaining $7M on a G, I feel that may be wishful thinking. Which brings us back to the discussions on this board about how Bengals operate as related to contracts. If the Bengals do come to an agreement with Trey AND get a starting G, this offseason would have been successful. If we do this AND add Asante Samuels, I would be delighted! Use of the word since includes the year in reference as the starting point, which is 2012. I suppose that's the basis for how we are counting the win total differently. 2012 playoffs: 4 total wins against the Colts, Broncos, Pats, and 49'ers. 2014 playoffs: 1 total win against the Steelers 2020 playoffs: 1 total win against the Titans 2023 playoffs: 1 total win against the Texans 2024 playoffs: 1 total win against the Steelers RE: One or two moves.... - bfine32 - 06-22-2025 (06-22-2025, 03:17 PM)TecmoBengals Wrote: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/rav/playoffs.htmYeah, I'd say the Bengals have not won a playoff game since 2022 season, you've got 'em with 2 wins. Correct, since 2022 they've won 2 games which is listed here: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/cin/playoffs.htm Since 2023 they've won 0 games which is 2 seasons in a row with no playoff wins (2023 & 2024). It's just a difference in how we're applying grammar/structure rules but I think when using the word since and discussing a year one is meant to include the year? For example, if I said, the US has been bombing Iran since 2025 it would include the year 2025 and not just 2026 and years beyond. Either way, we're only talking about an arbitrary selection of which season is the starting point to compare Ravens v. Bengals playoff win totals. Maybe a better starting point is with either Zac's first season or Burrow's first year. Edit: Burrow rules and Lamar doesn't. ![]() RE: One or two moves.... - bfine32 - 06-22-2025 (06-22-2025, 04:30 PM)TecmoBengals Wrote: Correct, since 2022 they've won 2 games which is listed here: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/cin/playoffs.htm Cool, the Bengals haven't been a playoff team since 2023. I dig it. Break what bank? Only 2 guards signed for more than $15M per. After those guys it was Mekhi Becton signing with the Chargers for 10M APY and it goes down from there. The Bengals signed Patrick for 2.1M. That contract ranks 17th for FA guards this year. There was no issue with having the money to sign someone better. |
