In the last 2 years combined,
Garrett had 16 games where he failed to register any kind of sack.
Watt had 12 games where he failed to register any kind of sack.
Crosby had 12 games where he failed to register any kind of sack and he missed 5 games.
Trey had 8 games where he failed to register any kind of sack.
Trey is the picture of consistency and some of you jagalope fans need to stop making up all these bullshit narratives that just aren't even close to true.

Poster says Trey gets his sacks in a few games then disappears. Another poster completely shoots that misinformation down and the 1st poster comes back and says "meh, sacks are overrated".
Total buffoonery around here.
And just so we're all clear, over the last 2 years,
Myles Garrett has had 1 instance of 5 straight games with zero sacks and 1 instance of 4 straight games with zero sacks.
Watt has 1 instance of 3 straight games with zero sacks.
Crosby has 2 instances of 3 straight games with zero sacks.
Trey has ZERO instances of 3 straight games with zero sacks and ONE instance of 2 straight games with zero sacks.

Just a couple of days ago I brought up the fact Hendrickson had just 8 sacks in the 2022 season when he went to the Bengals and demanded a raise. I was told you cant go by sacks. What line of reasoning are we using today? Sacks dont mean much or they do? I cant keep up with the changing talking points

I think fans say if we lose Trey, we will lose 17.5 sacks a year. That is the worst case scenario though. In reality whether it is Ossai, Murphy, Stewart or Sample, someone takes his snaps. If they get 8 sacks, we lost 9.5 sacks. That is a lot, but can we get productio from other positions like DT or LDE to compensate for Trey;s absence?
It is a gamble no doubt and I hope they work it out. But, I think Trey is the issue and not the FO at this point in time. They made an offer, it appears their final offer and Trey said no ending negotiations. Like others have said, the FO has nothing more to say so why would they call Trey or his agent.
At this point Trey will either report and honor the existing contract or not.
I think we will see an entirely differnt defense this year under golden with alot more emphasis on speed and disruption..treys sacks..although they usually came in 4-5 games were the only bright spot of a rather poor defense last year..i have watched trey closely...he gets locked into a wrestling match with the opposing tackle on almost every play and is very little help in the other aspects of the defense...we can debate this night and day but it is quite obvious that the other teams in the nfl did not value him as much as casual football fans

Yeah, but other than costing the other team a down, sending them 10 yards backwards, frustrating/flustering/beating the crap out of the opposing QB, and possibly causing game-breaking turnovers or bell-ringing what good are sacks, really?

How can anyone poop on Trey's sacks, even though he was pretty much the only one other teams had to worrying about. With a defense full of fail, Trey was pretty much the main person to key on and he still showed out.

Trey lead the league in sacks created by a wide margin. He was a leader/top3/top5 in virtually every relevant pass rush stat: pressures, hurries, hits, forced fumbles, time to first pressure.
PFF/ESPN/AI has him:
1st: Sacks, Pressures, Quick pressures
2nd: Pass rush win rate
3rd: Batted passes
4th: Hits, Hurries
8th: Forced fumbles
ESPN has him #1 in sacks created by a country mile. 2nd in pass rush win rate.
AI says first in quick pressures.
Yes, he is not elite or very good vs the run like some others (Crosby, Watt, Garrett). But he isn't awful (65.9).
In terms of overall DE play, Trey is probably top 5-ish. PFF has him 8th overall and 5th in pass rush. I'd say that is a smidge too low.
I think you can make a very good case for him being the most effective pass rushing DE in the league last year (and the last several).

Sacks matter. There are obviously other metrics besides just sacks though. You pointed out sacks to show he wasn't that good and other people pointed out some of the other metrics. I think the simple fact the Bengals did the 1 year extension show there was a solid argument to the metrics that people mentioned. Otherwise the Bengals wouldn't have done anything. Problem is now all the stats are too good to just slap a 1 year deal on it.

This is why the team would be crazy to trade him for less than at least a 1st round pick. To trade to a likely playoff team whose 1st round pick is much later, they would need another pick in my opinio as well.

The Bengals need to hire some front office help. To be cheap and bad at contracts is too much to overcome. We have a championship window that we are actively shutting with our ineptitude.

A first round pick in 2026 has a second round pick value in 2025. If it is true that Bengals wanted a first round pick in 2025 draft, any trade for 2026 draft picks would have to be TWO first round picks.
The recent articles about trade proposals all involve second rounders in 2026 - which suggests his trade value as a third rounder in 2025.
As a matter of interest, the trade scenarios for Myles Garret earlier this year suggested multiple first round picks:

Why wasn't Trey getting similar trade value suggestion as Crosby? I read at best one late first rounder, with most suggesting mid second rounder in 2025. Now it is even lower.
