I wonder if the Bengals would have taken him instead of Jenkins if had he fallen to the Bengals pick. We're fine for run-stuffing DTs for the next 3-5 years, even if we lose BJ: Jenkins and McKinnley were fine and progressed as the year went on (don't forget that Jenkins played with a broken arm for 2/3 of the year), McKinnley may never be Reader level, but he got tremendous push all year and on a per snap basis, did just as well as Sweat, IMO (not stats-wise, performance-wise, per snap). We need a pass rushing DT in the worst way, not a run stopping DT. RE: Huge Draft Trades... Always Only For QBs..... The difference between our 17th overall pick on the trade chart and the 5th overall pick is 750. Our 2nd round pick is worth 410, our 2026 1st round pick is likely (lets assume the 25th pick, then decrease value by a round for it being a year in the future) worth 330. So it would be more like our 1st, 2nd, and 6th round picks this year, AND our 1st round pick next year in order to get the 5th overall pick... probably more if the other team thinks we'd get later than the 25th pick next year (if they thought we'd be the 29th pick instead of the 25th, we'd need to add a 4th round pick). - - - - - That's a lot for a guy who is probably a 3-4 OLB rather than a 4-3 DE. I'd rather just pay Josh Sweat a bunch of money to come here and play opposite Hendrickson... and then still have our 1st and 2nd round pick (and our 1st next year) to add more players. Mims was a good start last year and yeah, I wanted Murphy just as much, but Mims was great value Agree with you. This is the year to trade back and get some extra picks both because they don't have nearly as many picks as they normally do but, mainly, they have holes at every level of the offense and defense other than QB, WR (depending what happens with Tee) and maybe S.Again, my honest opinion based on what I've seen the past couple of years: -Got 2 "questionable" CB's as it is that are coming off injuries. -Need to upgrade at LB. They haven't had an impact LB in 10 years that really put any fear into an opponent and someone they could line up everywhere and that had to be accounted for. -DE- Signing Trey to a LT contract at 31 years old and banking on him to be even close to the performance as he was this year is asking alot as he's a liability in the run defense but, mainly, because unless they get somebody on the other side to take the attention away from Trey, well, this team can still finish 3rd in the division and NOT be saddled with huge $$$ going Trey's way. I know it's unpopular but we are talking about the Bengals here. -DT- Going on multiple years now getting exposed in both defending the run game AND creating interior pressure on QB's. EVERY team, but maybe 3-4, are still looking at that 1/2 technique DT. -RB-They need another big back that can take some carries away from Brown to keep him fresh and also a guy that can fall forward and get those tough 1-2 extra yards and also impose their will on a tired defense when having the lead. Having another big RB might also sway Z Taylor from continuing to abandon the run on 3rd/4th downs and not continue to throw deep fades on those downs. IOL- For years the pressure up the middle has collapsed this OL and it's freaking time they do something about it. TE- Would love to get a talented TE that excels in both blocking anf getting downfield now that All is lost. I like MG alot and like some other pices but to get a guy that can be a 3 down TE would be great. RE: Huge Draft Trades... Always Only For QBs..... He has shown no signs of falling as a pass rusher at all. Might be the one thing I disagree with you here Higgy, need to extend Trey, he works his ass off. I know he is not the best run stopper, but you keep our one great pass rusher. Dax and Turner looked good to me this season, might not be as bad at Corner as we think. A healthy Logan Wilson with a new LB coach could also make LB look better this year while adding a good one and maybe letting Pratt go. The Defensive coaches being better is what I am hanging my hat on. Same with the new OL coach and DL coach and adding players to both sides of the trenches. You are right, need to trade back if anything this Draft and get some more picks. RE: Huge Draft Trades... Always Only For QBs..... Now, IF, he was a TJ Watt that lines up all over the field and a player that teams have to scheme for 3 downs then no doubt BUT Trey, as great as he is, is rather one-dimensional and I guess the real question is does anybody really think Cinci. is going to help Trey out by lining somebody opposite of him? You're correct that the elephant in the room is the new DC and defensive coaches and putting these guys in better spots to succeed and simplifying the scheme, if needed, which is exactly what Golden is known for. Get those LB's playing the way they did in the SB season. RE: Huge Draft Trades... Always Only For QBs..... We will see how we handle the Trey situation. He has value, but man, if we lose him, who do we got that can rush the passer? Nobody. We are in a tough spot if we don't extend Trey or we even trade him. The Draft is a crap shoot and early picks are great but you never know how a draft pick will turn out. We know what we have in Trey, just like we know what we have in Ja'Marr and even Tee. Getting new trench coaches was a huge step if we brought in the right guys. We will see. RE: Huge Draft Trades... Yes, both or even either of those two would definitely help transcend the face, image and persona of this Bengals defense. However, it's tough to imagine the miserly Bengals putting out the required money for either, let alone both of those stars from a large market championship team. RE: Huge Draft Trades... I agree, too bad I don't think we have a chance at either of them especially with Ja'Marr and Trey needing to be paid. |
