I played 7 seasons, started at many positions after the first season. Most of my time was at Guard and DE. I was just fast enough to play other spots when starters went down with injury (is very common in Semi-Pro ball).

Salaries always go up. Waiting with Chase costed more. I could do more examples.
Maybe they have no intent to keep Trey past this year? They appear to be trying to draft his replacement.

Sorry, Bengals hold the cards. They can bring it a vet to replace him after week #1 and the vet would not be guaranteed any money in 2025, so they could cut them if Trey came back from a hold out.
Him sitting out likely torpedoes the defense as he's the only proven pass rusher too. It's a classic lose lose.

Bengals just signed 30 year old BJ Hill to a three year deal for 33 million(which is a lot for an above average DT) 16 of which is fully guaranteed. So why can't they spend big money on an Elite Edge who is 30?

Only BJ Hill's 11m signing bonus is fully guaranteed. That's why the Bengals have an out they can cut him in March 2026 for only a 7m dead cap.
They made the first year of his contract massive making it look like they are "spending" like other teams but they are not.

Well, we haven't made the playoffs with him getting 17.5 sacks each of the past 2 years.
I still don't know that we have a playoff defense. It may be slightly better personnel wise. We're putting A LOT of pressure on the coaches.

Makes sense to me too, but I don't think he's interested in that. Sounds like he wants something near what Garrett got...in which case, I think trading him is the best option. But, I'm unclear on what the market is for him.

I'll be honest, I don't think the disagreement is with the amount of money. I think Trey would take the amount offered but the other stipulations like the length of the deal and the guarantees are where he's disagreeing.
I just wish if he wants communication from the Bengals, maybe he reach out to them first before reaching out to the media? Like, I get it, there should be constant communication to get a deal done, but it's not like Trey doesn't have their number.

You missed an important detail. Only 16 million is guaranteed or less than 50%.

Some fans would say it is disrespectful to offer such a low guaranteed portion.

Both sides in this saga really suck at this... Trey's agent is awful. Trey himself whines a lot... As far as the front office? Why does it always have to be this way? Wonder which Brown/ Blackburn put Zac up to telling Trey he was gonna be fined for not showing up to mandatory workouts...

This is not true. Milton Williams signed a 104 million contract, yet only 51 million is guaranteed at signing. That is less than 50% guaranteed money. This is closer to te norm in the NFL, the Bengals follow the norm, they are not doing less than other teams.If you take total guarntees, it i still only 63 million.

I'd have more sympathy for Trey's side of things if he didn't complain about his contract last year when the Bengals could literally do nothing to rectify his issues. If he's worried about respect, where is his apology to the Bengals for making a stink about his contract last year when they couldn't do anything about it?
Not that this absolves the front office for any disrespect on their part, but kinda makes Trey look a little hypocritcal, no?
